Cheap 'hotel' rock hard beds, domestic fridge in bedroom made so much noise we had to turn it off at night, air conditioning in the bedroom didn't work, sockets too far away from tables for laptop, no internet connection in bedroom, radiators need bleeding. The Ansonia owners need to rethink their approach. Boutique does not mean quirky decor and light... more

Overpriced, underwehelming, in dire need of a revamp, very noisy at front of property. Rooms dirty, glassware unwashed. Couldn't wait to leave. more

Firstly I'd like to apologise for a bad experience. Since taking over the Hotel less than 9 months ago we have worked hard to raise the level of cleanliness & standard of service that was lacking when we arrived and it is dissapointing to hear that one slipped through the cracks. The person responsible for the cleaning that weekend has...

My wife and I spent one night at The Ansonia in April 08 during our honeymoon. It was the last night of a 'boutique hotel' tour of the Great Ocean Road & South Victoria. As the first 3 night's accommodation had been wonderful in Apollo Bay, Port Fairy and Hall's Gap we were expecting the same in Ballarat... What a... more

This was one of the rare instances during my frequent travels in which I first booked the hotel and only then saw the TripAdvisor reports. After reading the remarks on this hotel, I was sure my family was going to kill me! I was very pleasantly surprised. This is not a luxury hotel but it does not have the pretensions,... more

Generally diasppointed with this hotel. The first "atrium" room we were given opened directly onto the restaurant courtyard, facing the entrance to the restaurant on a Sat night. Hardly private. Asked to be moved, the next room we couldn't open the blind as faced onto the general atrium, so no privacy and very dark. Furnished starkly and everywhere the paint... more

After an exhausting and busy hot day, we looked forward to our stay at this hotel. Expecting luxury, and having bought into the severely cropped photographs offered on their website, we were expecting a nice, comfortable overnight stay. We arrived to a less than hospitable concierge, and were advised to carry all our luggage up a rather large flight of... more

We stayed here for one night and wished it had been longer. The hotel was an oasis of calm in Ballarat which itself was a nice and quiet town. The staff were absolutely professional and polite. Our atrium room was impeccably clean, comfortable and spacious. We were also pleasantly surprised to find in the reading room a computer with high... more

This hotel was a hidden treasure, quite an unexpected and pleasing find. The bedroom was of an average size with huge ceilings. The style was simple, but stylish, almost 'New England'. Very comfortable. The restaurant was the biggest find, the food was absolutely wonderful - I had the best Rib-Eye steak and veg. Well worth above average restaurant prices. The... more
