We spent four nights in March in the Guest House, which sits high on a hillside above the owner's house and has a more than 180 degree open view of the ocean, offshore islands, pasture and woods, plus beautiful sunsets. Even watching rain showers approach was beautiful from the deck of the Guest House. The setting is completely private -... More

Our stay at The Glasshouse was a truly relaxing, luxurious experience. We were at one with nature – being surrounded by it and feeling like we were a part of it. The views of the coast from every room of The Glasshouse are just gorgeous – you can’t help but relax when you are there. It was an odd feeling... More

At the end of a lane almost a mile long and on top a very high hill we arrive at the Ara Roa guest house. We are speechless. Coming from the midwest US (flat, landlocked and endless cornfields) we have never seen such views. We can see for miles and miles across hills and valleys filled with sheep, horses and... More

We stayed in Aria, which was annexed to the owners house. A compact but very smart and well appointed home, with a very comfortable queen bed in one bedroom, and twin beds in the second, and a lovely big bathroom with huge bath looking out over the view. The manager, Paul, provided a travel cot and high chair for our... More

Wonderful place to stay just outside of Whangarei, with amazing views and a modern comfortable feel, fully equipped with everything you could wish for, and a fabulous spa bath with a balcony view of native bush. Very friendly hosts, easy to deal with via email for bookings. There aren't enough superlatives, just go!

My family and i spent 2 days at the "Guest House". But it is as if we were only staying for i day because we came late. :( The "Guest House" was comfortable, well equiped and modern. I also saw the friendliest host,Paul. Early in the morning, we can hear the sheepdogs chasing the sheep into the pen. The view outside... More

You think that nothing could amaze you anymore, not that much. And then by chance you are led to this place… My friends and I spent five unforgettable days at the Ara Roa Guest House. The location itself is breathtakingly beautiful - hard to describe because I believe neither words nor pictures would do it justice. The Guest House is... More

I spent 10 days at the “Guesthouse” – and it exceeded all my expectations. The accommodation is extremely comfortable, quiet and tasteful, the views from the decks are breathtaking. Set in beautiful scenery, with a great view of the sea and Whangarai Peninsula, the only thing you can hear are Kiwis (the Birds!), cows and your heartbeat, which tells you,... More

We have traveled all over the world including in 5 star accommodation. We love New Zealand (where we live) and it never ceases to astound us. The Guest House is so well appointed, inside and out. We wanted for nothing. It is self catering, private and still has mod-cons to make you feel like you are luxuriating in paradise. The... More

Thanks for the great feedback and sharing the suggestion of creating a booklet featuring more local artwork. Always great to get ideas on how we can improve. And to see a kiwi - how lucky was that! I'm really stoked you managed to see it. See you again soon, Take care. Cheers, Susanne More

We had the pleasure of staying at the Guest House for two nights - and wished it could have been for more. This is one of the best appointed places we've ever stayed at, although self-catering all the added extras are provided - very thoughtful and tasteful - and the views are to die for! A perfect place for some... More
