The Dolphin Lodge was the most disappointing hostel of our two months in New Zealand. Its a hostel in a residential area so the surroundings are quiet. The hostel is based at the top of a hill from kaikoura so to get there you either climb some steep steps or drive there by car. I stopped in Dolphin Lodge for a couple of days. I found the staff very friendly, the hostel very cozy, and the hottub and terrace outside were fantastic! I never ate alone for dinner as people tend to meddle, and hanging outside watching the sunset on the mountains was very pleasurable. A neat place! more

This small friendly hostel was great and a good place to get chatting. What was really nice was the cross section of people and ages, it wasnt full of kids! They really did have an excellent Spa which was put on every night. Moira and Richard are real sweeties and get involved with the guests! more

The YHA where we were staying in Kaikoura was getting booked up so they sent us to Dolphin Lodge Backpackers up the hill... we're so glad they did!!!
