As you drive past the motels along Kaikoura seafront you suddenly see a bright yellow Cape Dutch building - the Anchor Inn Motel! We had a very nice room, facing the sea, with all the facilities you might need . Hard to fault, so a dull review... more

When I chose this motel in Kairuora, I knew it's price is on the high side, but I booked it due to other reviews. I am glad I made a good choice. The motel is so easy to find, along the beach front road. Friendly guy gave us the key and we parked our car right at the kitchen door.... more

After reading so many good reviews, we booked a sea-view luxury studio but were left disappointed. We stayed in different motels throughout South Island in our 2 weeks trip but Anchor Inn is definitely not up there with the rest. Though spacious, the room was not what we would call a luxury studio. The heaters in the room and toilet... more

My husband I stayed there in 2007 (only for 1 night) and we had booked to go on the Whale Watch Tour. Very clean and large room, great location with fantasic views over the sea. From recollection the owners are English and were a really nice and friendly welcoming couple. Anchor Inn is not in the centre of town but... more

We arrived in Kaikoura on a cold and rainy night and were delighted with our fully accessible room overlooking the water. The people are wonderful. The windows are double glazed (north americans do NOT appreciate our central heat and double glazed windows) and had everything we needed. The next day we watch in delight as the natives were overjoyed with... more

Our travel agent sent us here and we're glad she did. The couple who manage the hotel greeted us warmly and provided personal and gracious hospitality. This is not like an American "road" motel, this is modern, clean, and quiet. We were glad we stayed and would go there again. more

We had a two night stay at the charming Anchor Inn. Our room was large, light filled and spotlessly clean. The room had a kitchenette, dining table, lounge, small TV with some cable channels, and dvd & video players (discs/tapes available at the office). We were at the back of the complex, but still had a view over the snow... more

As Americans, we tend to think of motels as slightly shabby, utilitarian places where you spend the night just to spend the night. Not The Anchor Inn. The rooms are special, beautifully kept-up, with efficient kitchens, lovely baths and--many of them---views out to the sea. (I've attached a photo showing the scene from our small patio), If all I could... more

We had a studio apartment overlooking the ocean. The motel itself is well run, clean/tidy and has everything you could need for a short stay. The motel itself is located at the quieter end of town away from the main highway (and its rumbling trucks). That said it's only a 10 minute walk to the main part of town and... more
