Just returned from my third trip to the South Island of NZ and have found a real gem of a B&B in the lively, historic provincial town of Oamaru,
The property is being renovated to bring it back to it's full Victorian splendour. Don' t let the idea of renovations put you off. The property is large, and rambling set in its own gardens. The 4 rooms are large, clean and comfortable; furnished with many antique items befitting a Victorian town house. All rooms have access to private facilities, with copious quantities of hot water!
Although situated in the centre of town , handy for the Victorian historic precinct , Janet Frame House and Trail, as well as the two penguin colonies; Eden Lodge is very quiet and peaceful. Conitnental breakfast is served daily. The host is welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful and unlike some B&B hosts seems genuinely interested in his guests. Room rates start at NZ$55 for a single and rise to NZ$80-120 for a double per night.
