We had a one bedroom family unit and was excellent. There was a large double bed in the lounge area and a twin room, electric blankets all round and beds that were so comfy it was a glorious night’s sleep! A basic but good value motel, with friendly managers, convenient for seeing Oamaru and only 10 minutes drive from the penguin colony (make sure you do!). Its only drawback was some late night noise from a 24-hour fast food restaurant next door, but we were told by the motel manager they were in discussions with the restaurant to stop youths... more

The Bella Vista chain aims to create a standardised experience in whichever of their motels you stay. If they achieve this, then we could have been perfectly comfortable staying in Bella Vista motels all around South Island.
