Having read the previous reviews and being enthusiastic users of Australian B&B's over some 6 visits to Australia, we were unfortunately disappointed with our visit to Holmwood Guesthouse. We had purchased the Island Explorer Package which included two nights in the Nelson Room and a 3 park pass for the Philip Island attractions for $450. With only a day and... more

Thank you for your review, even though it's a pity you were disappointed. However, to be fair to other Tripadvisor readers, this was not entirely the way it went. We had only just finished cleaning rooms and cottages when you arrived at 1.10pm. I offered for you to come back at our regular check in time of 2pm, since I...

Stayed here for one night (wish it could have been more!) on route from Melbourne to Sydney. Perfect place to stay and see the penguins. We were warmly welcomed by the owner who gave us some recommendions of places to visit. Stayed in a really cute twin room - the room was so cosy and comfy. Good parking facilities and... more

My wife and I stayed at Holmwood Guest House in February 2007 en route from Sydney to Melbourne. I really couldn't recommend the place strongly enough. The house is beautiful and our hosts were delightful, offering to arrange payment of our motorway toll fee into Melbourne.. We were offered afternoon tea and homemade biscuits on the verandah when we arrived.... more

For me there was only one negative about staying at the Holmwood Guesthouse and that was that I only booked myself in for one night en route to Melbourne. This is a great place to stay without a doubt and there’s a choice of accommodation style from traditional B&B in the main house to two fully adjacent self-contained units (cottages).... more

We have stayed there on Feb 11, 2008 for one night to see the penguins. Although it was only a one night stay, I had a good experience about this B&B. The decor of the premise is superb and the place is easy to access (if you drive, of course!). The owner served us the traditional welcome English tea, which... more

My boyfriend and I have just emigrated from the UK to Australia. Before we settled into Aussie life we took the opportunity to travel to Hong Kong, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne before arriving and settling in Adelaide. We have some friends who live in San Remo which is close to Phillip Island so we chose to stay at Holmwood while... more

I was looking at a basic motel in Cowes before our travel agent pointed us towards Holmwood, and I'm very glad they did! We received a warm welcome from Eric & Serena, our hosts, and were shown to our room. The lovely character of the old house carried through to the rooms, the Nelson room was comfortable and full of... more

Glad you enjoyed our place! Since it may take you a while to return (and those shortbreads are indeed more-ish) hereby the recipe: 1-2-3. One part caster sugar Two parts butter (I use salted) Three parts flour mixture (approx 80% plain flour, 15% rice flour and 5% cornflour). Cream butter, sugar and some vanilla essence till changing colour. Mix in...

Exclusive b&b just outside the centre of Cowes on Philip Island run by an incredibly friendly Dutchman & his wife. Very nice Victoriana rooms were very comfortable in this charming old cottage They will do a perfectly good evening meal though they don’t seem to push this strongly as & a lot of people balk at the price. I would,... more
