Study bedroom used as a hotel room showed some signs of wear but otherwise was comfortable.
Major concern was that the signs for the fire exit lead down a stair well to a door that was locked. In the event of fire, fumes would accumulate in this confined space. When asked about it the hotel said that they would send security people to open the door ! (The security desk was a considerable distance away, and what if they are dead?). The walk from my room to the nearest usable exit was a considerable distance. I was on a low floor, so could get out of my room window (with some difficulty) so I decided to stay-on despite the take-it-or-leave-it attitude of the staff. People on a higher floor would not stand a chance.
Many academic conferences from England are organised at this hotel. I would recommend organisers to quiz the hotel about the adequacy of their fire precautions before organising conferences there.
