We spent 2 nights at the Gellert and could have stayed much longer. The room had a balcony overlooking the Danube and was large and nicely furnished. The ambience is great - grand and old - it is a listed building. Staff are fantastic. The Gellert is attached to the Gellert Spa and you can reach this from within the... more

Despite reading the sweeping disfavor on this site for the Gellért's "single rooms", I booked a four night stay in one of these rooms anyway. And as one might expect, I can only reiterate this disapproval... Yes, the hotel is accredited with a 4-star rating, but it's important to note that whilst the communal areas and facilities (and possibly the... more

I booked this hotel because of the old historical architecture of the hotel and the adjoining baths and read many reports about the condition of the rooms etc before I arrived so I did not have any surprises when i arrived. Still, I have some info to share - The front desk staff were very friendly and all spoke english.... more

Colleagues of mine told me this was the best hotel to stay in within Budapest for traditional atmosphere and value. The architecture was definitely great, and I guess I can't complain about the dated rooms that much for the price we paid ($140 US per night with breakfast and access to the Gellert Baths & Spa). But the rooms are... more

I booked the Gellert for a four day stay, having stayed there 6 years ago. The Gellert is a magnificent Art nouveau building away from the centreof Budapest, which although easily accessible by taxi / tram, is a significant trek. My welcome was friendly, and I even had a Danube facing room as requested. When I went up to room... more

Not at all what I expected. Magnificent building, great SPA and swimming pool but as you soon as you walk into the hotel you get a feeling that this must have been grand when it first opened but it no longer is. The hotel is in serious need of a re-vamp. We had a suite and the space was amazing... more

My standard double room on the fourth floor was spotless, very adequately furnished with no ambience of the much-quoted but long-gone Communist era - and with a splendid balcony view of the river. Staff very friendly, food good and the building itself was delightful. Excellent location away from the city centre but only a ten-minute walk from its edge. My... more

Thanks to everyone who had posted on here- your reviews and feedback really helped us plan our trip! I wanted to book a trip for myself and my husband and stay in a hotel with character overlooking the river. We couldn't afford the Gresham ( much as I would have liked to stay there!) and some of the modern hotels... more

The Gellert Hotel is for sure an experience but for me and my friends not a pleasant one. We stayed in standard double rooms and we did NOT like climbing into the beds at night. The rooms are very old and definitely needs a renovation. It looks like no one has been in these rooms for the past 50 years.... more

On the whole a good hotel whilst not spectacular. I stayed there with three colleagues for four nights, each of us in single rooms on the 5th floor (not a problem for us but the lift only went as far as the 4th floor). They were small rooms but were clean and tidy and were serviced a couple of times... more
