Perfectly placed hotel with great staff and surroundings. We had a great stay in a very historic surrounding. we could not of been better placed to explore the city. The afternoon Tea and cakes were a must not miss. The room seems a little dated in decoration but its also part of the ambiance of the whole environment. The staff were always on hand, willing and helpful

Hotel's Favourite
Just returned from a week in Budapest. I have been staying here regularly over the past 15 years. The rooms are clean, classically decorated and quite spacious compared to much of Europe. If I might add, the water pressure in the shower is quite impressive indeed. You can't ask for a better location. So many of the wonders of Budapest are within walking distance. The breakfast buffet has everything one could want. At night, a delicious bowl of steaming, Hungarian gulyas (goulash) in the stunningly beautiful cafe is all one needs, The Astoria is a step back in time. It is dripping in old world Hungarian culture and elegance. It is steeped in Hungarian history. It is candy for the eye, a potpourri for the nose and warm comforting embrace. All of which are good for the soul. It is a precious gem, a diamond. But most importantly, the staff. A big shout out to Karcsi at reception. A lovely man. Also to the kind people at the bar and restaurant. Zsu Zsa, Jozsef, Rudi, Istvan, Tibor and Gizella who works so hard in the kitchen. Thank you to Mr. Zsida of management for your constant welcoming smile and making me feel at home. Please forgive me if I left anyone out. Thanks to all of you for always making me feel welcome when I stay. I highly recommend this hotel.

Perfectly placed Hotel, just a 5-10 minute walk to the Danube. The hotel is lovely and traditional when you walk through the door with a nice decor. The staff we encountered throughout our stay were friendly and helpful. The rooms were really big, large bed, 2 chairs, TV, fridge but no kettle or tea coffee making equipment although there is a restaurant and bar just off of the hotel lobby. Bathroom was modern with Nasin, shower and Toilet. Cleaned daily to a good standard and restocked bathroom daily. Would definitely recommend this place.

I stayed here for 3 nights during my recent visit to Budapest. The main reason for choosing the hotel was its vicinity to main attractions of the city and the public transport network - especially as the bus from the airport drops you off pretty much outside. I can’t say I received a particularly warm welcome into the hotel but I think that may have been down to a language barrier as opposed to a deliberate bluntness. The decor of the hotel is attempting to recreate the luxury of other European city hotels but does come across somewhat dated. I don’t think I saw anyone actually using the reception area for sitting despite there being plenty of area to sit. I had a double room on the 5th floor which had a balcony albeit not accessible and to be honest I wouldn’t have wanted to use it if I could have done. The room was clean and comfortable for what I was using it for - a place to sleep and refresh after the day. The bathroom had everything you needed and plenty of hot water and power to the shower which is always a win. If you’re hoping the rooms have the usual amenities that perhaps you’d find in similar hotels such as tea/coffee making, iron and ironing board etc then I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed. It’s not a big deal for me personally and I’m sure if you asked for something the hotel would provide. My board was bed and breakfast. Again this is a nice to have but don’t expect to find a lot. I was usually down for breakfast for 9am but by that time there was usually very little on the hot food side or pastries - the hotel is very popular and has a lot of guests staying but the breakfast struggled to meet the demands of that many people - for example a single large bowl for scrambled eggs to serve 30-40 guests is going to disappear quickly as are the small baskets of pastries. By the second day it made more sense to walk to the nearby supermarket and buy breakfast there. Overall for a place to sleep it was good but if you’re hoping for more than that then perhaps look to other places.

2 delicious cakes, a coffee & a green tea. All beautifully served for only £7.97 including service charge. A very traditional, old world cafe. Beautiful. Certainly a lovely place to visit & watch the busy street outside. The downside: the cakes weren't the ones we ordered & I never got the bottle of water I asked for! The waiter was a little grumpy! It didn't detract from the lovely ambience and bustle of the cafe. Definitely visit if you're passing!

Great location, right on top of a metro hub, and the airport bus stops right outside. Lovely decor choices, retaining the early 20th century feel throughout. However… I’m not sure what we might have said to any of the staff but (the friendly cleaning staff aside) they all seemed to be annoyed all the time. On closer inspection, the place was pretty tatty, with bleach-stained carpets, years of wear and tear and lack of care. It’s fine, it did the job, just don’t look too close.

Extremely overpriced hotel that is torned and most likely won’t be better. The bathtub was missing a plug, hotel staff don’t have anything extra . A water stain on the ceiling, bad pressure on the water. Breakfast was terrible, very low quality. Barely anything to choose between. Staff is just unprofessional. This hotel should not cost this much, there are 100 more hotels for cheaper that’s better . Try to avoid this place. Not worth the price

Nice hotel centrally located at Astoria so handy for transport around the city. Old rooms, high ceilings and a traditional feel, staff were polite, breakfast offering basic but adequate and all round I would stay here again and recommend as a convenient base to explore Budapest
