Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

When we arrived there on 19/12 (check-in day), we were faced with a completely different reality from the photos shown on the booking. The building looks abandoned, in super bad condition and very dodgy, with no security whatsoever. On entering, there was nothing like the photos, and our biggest surprise was when we saw the bathrooms, both the one where you were supposed to shower and the one that only had a toilet. As well as looking like something improvised, it was in extremely poor condition and had a nauseating smell. The shower was in a laundry room, and there was no photo of this in the booking. That said, the next day we decided to leave the place, leaving the key in the correct place and thinking that payment had already been made on the day of booking, via booking. However, the hostess was extremely rude and impolite, implying that we wanted to leave without paying and even accusing us of doing so. Then, she deleted the message and proceeded to cancel our stay saying that we never showed up, ignoring the rest of the messages, and even leaving a rather rude and sarcastic note on the booking, showing an extreme lack of character.

Loved staying at this hostel! It was clean, my dorm was quiet and it’s very central too. Budapest has so much going on that I got lost in it for 4 days, so the hostel made a great base for my stay. I also met some nice people in the city too, so I would fully recommend for anyone to stay at Friends - especially as a solo traveler, as you’ll meet plenty of people.

Couldn’t find them nor their apt. No name of apt # on their ad. Had to wait for HOURS outside the bldg entrance just to get in. UNACCEPTABLE “customer service” unfit for a lapdog, let alone a paying guest!

The hostel is great and the price is excellent for its quality. The place has only a few rooms, what gives a very nice atmosphere to it. There is a common kitchen that you can use at any time. Everything is extremely clean, especially since you are not allowed to enter there wearing shoes. The location is also great, and you can do almost everything by foot from there. However, there are no power plugs for the upper beds, which is really inconvenient. Our only problem was that on Thursday some of the staff were listening to loud music at 1 a.m. They were always very nice and polite, and they turned the sound off in the second we told them that we were trying to sleep, but still that was upsetting. However, the stay was great and i really recommend it!

I stayed in room F-1-3 and I saw 6 bed bugs. At first I wasn't aware of this issue but I laid in bed and had bites and hives. I moved to another bed in the other side of the room. We spoke to the management. They took out the mattress and offered to wash everything. However, did they not throw out the items in the room. Bed bugs are a serious health hazzard. Some of the beds crawled to the other side of the room. I have 7 large hives and bruises. When we came back to the room I killed 3 bed bugs that were crawling in the wall. In addition I saw a roach. I never post reviews but I am itching. I left at 2 am and went to a safe hotel that cost me three times the amount of this private room. Travelers - Do not stay here, this is a horrible experience. Bed bugs will bite you and you will get bruises, it is not worth it. The management needs to hire an exterminator and throw out the furniture. This is serious. Management - Please respond to our email. I am seriously in pain. In addition, I suggested that you take out the furniture. The room is infested and you just washed the items. This is a serious health hazard. I hope you do the right thing because every person staying on that floor will see the bugs or get bitten. Many thanks for trying to help and I look forward to your response. I can share pictures but they are quite gross. Good luck all and enjoy Budapest - Cindy

My friend and myself shared a twin room during our duration of stay in Budapest to attend the Sziget festival. The room was very spacious and clean. Bathrooms were just across the hall and the room and hostel itself were very secure. Location is just down the road from the Oktogon so easy walking to lots of key places! Only downside was the room did not have air conditioning (however there was a small fan), lucky it wasn’t too hot while we were there! Staff were friendly and helpful.

Friends is in a very good location. The hostel itself is nice and recently renovated. It's a great place to meet others traveling. The place is sparkling clean and very comfortable. The staff is courteous, professional and helpful. I had a great time at Friends.

This hostel is situated right in the center of the city, within walkable distance of all the main landmarks which makes it very convenient. You actually have two parts in the hostel: one that is very modern and super comfy, the other that looks like an old apartment (still quite comfy but looks a bit outdated and you don't have direct access to the reception). Only negative point: in the dorm, the big windows are very thin and you can hear every noise from the busy boulevard down there, which can totally wake you up in the early morning and prevent you from falling asleep. Apart from that, very nice stay!

It is a pitty because the place is very cozy and nice, and the staff is very friendly. It is difficult to find it from the street but inside is a nice house, broad. After I saw the reaction in my arms and neck I asked for a change of bed, it was not possible but at least they changed the linens. :(

We booked a private room and was surprised by it's size. The sharing area was huge and it felt very secure and private. The location was also great, right in the middle of the city surrounded by a lot of food places and really great bars. A definite must stay for it's price and value.
