For most of our central European vacation we stayed in the major cities but we did spend one night in Gyor in order to see this city and to visit Pannonhalma Abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage site about 25km south.
Compared to Budapest the hotels here are about half the price, we had a very decent stay for about 40 Euros.
While located very close to the train and bus station, the Hunyadi Panzio was nevertheless very quiet and on a very nice street, unlike what you often find close to train stations in large cities.
Rooms were on the second floor, no lift.
Breakfast was in the downstairs restaurant which was decorated with several antiques.

We enjoyed Gyor, an interesting small city with some nice inexpensive cafes.
Pannonhalma Abbey was also an interesting side trip. We took the local train there and had to walk more than a mile uphill since we couldn't find a taxi. Might be a good idea to rent a car and drive through the area, very...
