I found a cosy historic villa with modern amenities set in an idyllic garden, hosted by a knowledgeable travelled couple who perform spectacular night-time fire shows. Juggling and Poi lessons, homegrown organic fruits and veggies, high speed and wireless internet were among the comforts and services that I and the other guests willingly donated coins for. This is a surbuban house turned into a hostel, and so is quite small and friendly. You might feel a little old here if you're over 30, but will still be welcome. We found Juggler’s Rest to be the perfect backpackers (hostel) to stay before and after walking the Queen Charlotte Track – really cozy little lounge, nicely furnished, and good atmosphere.
