Spent 4 nights at Raetihi with the family. We had the 2 rooms nearest the water (which is literally a stones throw) which was fabulous (Rata was the best one). The way to go is by boat (water taxi). Pete Bigley, the boatman, will pick you up at Portage and take you across Kenepuru Sound, explaining important things on the way - e.g, the only unlogged bush on the sound, Skiddaw Scenic Reserve. This place will bankrupt me as all three daughters insist they want their honeymoons here! Why - well, its fantastic location for a start.
