An awesome location, great grounds, fabulous staff, great food. Just an amazing place to spend time. My favourite thing is the hammocks around the grounds, I just didn't want to leave. more

We stayed for just one night in a luxury chalet room. The name chalet is a little misleading though, as this is not a freestanding room, rather a room in a larger chalet with multiple rooms. Regardless, we were very happy with the room. It was very spacious and nicely decorated in neutral tones. The bathroom was large and luxurious,... more

Arrived after kayaking from Picton. Staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Our room was wonderful, went on lovely walks around the lodge, chilled out in the awesome hammocks. Food was great and happy hour was wonderful. Thank you for a great stay and help with the kayaks more

We walked into Lochmara Lodge from the Queen Charlotte Track, which took about 45 minutes. It's well worth the walk in though. The place is really amazing set within a beautiful bay. It's really peaceful and although it's a reasonable sized lodge there are plenty of places to get away from it all. There are hammocks and benches all over... more

We loved our stay at Lochmara Lodge - my husband was worried about three children and no television! but our kids were so busy. The older two kids(aged 8 and 5) went in the (free) kayaks out on the water all the time. The toddler loved paddling in the beach area. The staff at the restaurant were so considerate of... more

Lochmara Lodge is set in a very beautiful bay, which is accessible by water taxi. The restaurant food was superb and the staff was friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend staying in the family chalet, but NOT the Bayview Ensuite. The first night we stayed in the family chalet (#13) and the second night we moved to the Bayview... more

Stayed here over Christmas with our 2 children. Apartment was pretty basic with small kitchen area but no cooking facilities or lounge but this was made up for by the fabulous location. Lots of wildlife - birds, alpacas, dog, fish - free use of kayaks to paddle around in - and lots of places to explore and escape. Hot tub... more

Lochmara Lodge was absolutely the highlight of our holiday – and we didn’t even stay there! (We would have, but they were full!). Instead we stayed in our boat, and over the course of a few days, we tied up to the visitors mooring and had breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Lochmara Cafe. Every single meal was divine –... more

After two weeks touring the South Island we stayed at Lochmara to relax for two nights. we stayed in a luxury lodge whiich was spacious and nicely fitted out with fantastic views from the balcony, or even sat up in bed. the grounds are great to explore with trails past statues carvings and numerous hammocks to rest in along the... more

Reading the reviews about this place, I had high hopes, but was sorely disappointed. Our room was tiny and minimalist to a fault -- there was a single light bulb hanging above the bed, and the room smelled of mildew and sewage (they were apparently having a problem with the sewage system while we were there). That said, the view... more
