I knew ahead of time that the rooms were small, but so is Avalon. Lets keep it real, when you are visiting a vacation area, how much time are you in your room. The VP is centrally located and with great views of the harbor and Crescent Avenue. What I liked about the patio area is the spontaneous interaction among... more

We were able to get a room here at the last minute during the jazz festival. Person I spoke with over the phone warned me that room was small. We were very pleased with our stay. Room was small, but decorated nicely and was well-appointed. Sun deck has beautiful views - great spot to enjoy your morning coffee or a... more

we made our first trip over to catalina and had a great time! This hotel has a GREAT location. You dont have to walk much to get to where you want to go if you stay here. (some other hotels you have to hike up hills to get to!) It was pretty expensive but everything over there is. The room... more

I don't think the Portofino is as great as these reviews say. For the most part, the rooms are dark and small and slightly funky. But Catalina is funky, and presumably if you are vacationing in Catalina, you are o.k. with things being a little old and run-down. Having said that, there are two rooms that are great at the... more

I stayed at this hotel with my husband for our anniversary. We splurged for the Miramare suite to get a private balcony, but be aware the pictures in the brochures and on their website are all hoaxes. The suite looks nothing like the website. It's much smaller, but was still adequate for us. The balcony was nice and we did... more

My family and I LOVED the Hotel Villa Portofino. It is a charming, quaint hotel that is right across the street from the beach. Clean room, great service, lovely environment with a beautiful courtyard that makes you feel like you are in a sweet Mexican or Mediterranean courtyard. Located at the end of the main "strip" of shops and restaurants.... more

I ended up booking this hotel after reading reviews from most hotels on Catalina. I wanted clean and newer, and this hotel fit the bill. However, that being said, the room was soooo small. Plus I booked late and only had the option of a queen size bed with the addition of a futon for our son. There starts the... more

Just got home tonight from a 2 day stay at the VP, and think their staff is fantastic! Location is excellent as well- right across the street is beach access. We both loved it- think it is a good value for the price, and we loved the sun deck, good continental breakfast, and helpful staff. Looking forward to returning! more

Stayed here with the beau and just loved it. It was WAY cheaper than all the other "nice hotels" but it was just as good. The service was awesome also. All the front desk staff was very helpful, and the housekeeping were all on top of everything. Best view was from the Sundeck. I spent most of my time up... more

We stayed here for a one night getaway. The room was small but very cute and cosy. The sundeck is fantastic and a really good place to relax and take in a view of the bay. Catalina is beautiful and I recommend a bus trip into the interior of the island. We saw the buffalo and the airport in the... more
