This dar has been carefully restored with much attention to detail. Located minutes from one of the main streets in the medina, Dar Benis provides a haven from the hustle and bustle of old Fez. Set over at least four floors with a traditional internal courtyard and winding stairs that take you to the roof terrace, providing views over Fez.... More

I stayed in David Amster's Dar Bennis this Christmas past with a couple of friends and had a marvellous time. Such a beautiful house. Clean, spacious and unfussy with just the right amount of detail and perfect finishes to the doors and fittings. It is magically quiet and has beautiful views from the terrace. We found it easy to find... More

We have just had two wonderful weeks in Dar Bennis in the medina in Fes. This has to be one of our best holidays ever. The beauty of the house and its reconstruction by owner David Amster is marvellous. We have never stayed in such a house before and it was a superb experience. The zellij, the high ceilings, the... We loved staying in Dar Bennis. The kitchen was well-equiped and buying fruit and vegetables from the market stalls was a good way to gain confidence in dealing with the locals. There were also good restaurants close by for when we didn’t want to cook. Khalid kindly brought the breakfast we asked for each morning, as well as changing the... More

I had the great opportunity to stay in Dar Bennis this winter for three nights. This house is perfectly restored--without the extras and frills that clutter other guest Riads in the medina--in a way that lets you truly celebrate an aesthetic and tradition at the height of its beauty a few centuries ago. Great location--only a few minutes walk into... More

I was lucky enough to stay in Dar Bennis this December while working on a theatre production in Fez, and it was the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. More than just a retreat though, this house is everything that is magnificent about Fez and its imperial splendor. The owner has restored it to traditional style,... More

Although there are a large number of riads and dars in which visitors to the Fes medina can stay, David Amster's Dar Bennis really cannot be surpassed. The house has been meticulously and sensitively restored by an owner who possesses a keen eye and a profound knowledge of the tradition within which he is working. Its scale is intimate, its... More

David Amster has done a fantastic job on this place. It's a true sympathetic restoration - no frills, just the real deal. a traders house restored to as it was a couple of hundred years ago or so. Nice kitchen with all the kit, hot water, comfy beds, great views from the terrace. Just perfect. The location is great, very... More

We stayed four nights at the start of our visit to Morocco at Dar Bennis and another night at the end of our trip. I would thorougly recommend Dar Bennis. The location could not be bettered - in the heart of the medina but peaceful and quiet. We were woken the first morning by the sparrows tweeting by the window.... More

We arrived in country, and Dar Bennis was booked, it is no longer a secret gem, so book early. We stayed at another place, a more expensive Riad with a beautiful courtyard garden and small restaurant, it was lovely, but 36 hours in one room, even with a garden, was enough for me. So after a week traveling throughout Morocco,... More
