The Hotel Salammbo is not a gem of a hotel. But it's not dirty, it's not full of creepy crawlies and it's not unsafe. Like many other budget hotels between the station and Avenue Bourguiba, it is worn around the edges and has antiquated bathrooms and fixtures, and not a lot of light. I stayed at the Hotel Salambo a few years back after reading some decent reviews in gudie books and online. The quality of the Hotel was pretty decent a little warn around the edges but certainly decent quality. We found out about this place through some guidebooks and even had some recommendations from people on the internet. Okay it is cheap, but we were really unimpressed with our stay. We had two rooms, the first was bearable - believe me I have stayed in some dumps! - the second room (we came back to fly out) was awlful.... more

Hotel Salammbo is in the city centre of Tunis, NOT in the subburb of Salammbo. So be sure the taxi drive knows to take you to the city centre from the airport. This hotel is mainly frequented by locals and is in great location just steps from the train station, medina, and Tunis' trendy shopping street. We quite liked this... more
