I understand that you need to give at least 2 months notice to get into one of the “main” hotels in Luanda and the company couldn’t get me in anywhere other than Fleuma. I was told the hotel is very new but it didn’t really feel like it. It is close to the airport (as you can tell from the sound of low-flying aircraft) and it took about an hour and half (or more) each way into the city at peak times. When I arrived I was shown to a small room with almost no natural light and, it turned out, no seat on the toilet (though one was fitted later in the day), nowhere to hang clothes and only one power socket for the whole room (for the empty fridge). Eventually (only 4 hours after a move was promised) I managed to move to a larger room but it was still on the ground floor with a view into an external corridor and the only place to sit and work was at a stool by the dressing table.
