Just a few kilometers from the airport, this is one of the most internationally oriented hotels in Asmara, with good rooms, friendly staff and good restaurants and café's. Staying here was pleasant and offered no great surprises. The room was spacious, clean and with everything needed to stay a few days in comfort. Internet was very slow and weak, but... More

The Asmara Palace Hotel is the best that Asmara has, but regrettably, it would earn about a C- in most other contexts. It's a large, generic place in the spirit of 'corporate chain hotel meets under-used shopping mall in Nowheresville.' Characterless and mediocre by most measurements, when it tries to import character, like with its so-called Irish pub ("Green Pub"),... More

Asmara Palace is the best in the city I was there from Dec 9th to Dec 12th. It's 5 star hotel with decent rooms and amenities nearing Asmara airport only 3 minutes. Brake fast is average with little varieties however juice and fruits was always fresh and delicious. Hotel guest were the top social class in the city usually there... More

This hotel is the only one in Asmara aiming to be a 'typical' large international 5-star business / leisure type hotel. It was formerly an Intercontinental and is clearly trying to maintain a similar standard - amazingly given the circumstances it doesn't fall too far short. Rooms are large and the whole property is extremely well maintained and clean -... More

Always mentioned in your reviews are the the more expensive hotels in Asmara. Having lived on and off in Eritrea during the years 1993 till 2011, I spent many months in the Expo Hotel. The owner, Ato Abraham (Shidistu) and his son Fesahy are ultra friendly persons and they know how to treat guests. As a family run business, one... More

Asmara Palace (formerly Intercontinental and now government owned) is the tipical big hotel, cold and impersonal. If you are in Asmara for business probably it could be your choice because it meets all western standard (business center with the only valid internet connection in Eritrea, swimmingpool, fitness center, luxury rooms, etc), but if you're looking for a charming choice, avoid... I lived there in 2002 for 4 months. At the time it was the best hotel in Asmara. Service was not competent and quite unfriendly. I seem to understand that it was closed and reopened meanwhile, but according to friends who have been there, it is no better than it was. Food was frankly bad and made me sick several... More

Asmara is a very small & developing city so certain mod cons you just expect in a any hotel may not be readily available in a place like this. The hotel I would say for facilities is certainly the best in Asmara. It has an indoor + outdoor pool, 3 restaurants and gym. It also has a couple of shops... More

I was intially excited about staying at the ICH until I arrived and was told my guest would have to leave before the 11pm curfew!! The staff did not approve of a male guest visiting a female. I went thru hell and back to get my friend to visit me. He was constantly harassed by hotel security. The service was... More

I arrived at the hotel at midnight of 11/12th May 2008 without my suitcase due to an airline mess up. I learnt that my suitcase had been left at OR Tambo in Johannesburg and I was only going to get it 4 days later. With all the airlines' security these days I had nothing on me except the clothes I...
