Spent my last night in Ethiopia at the Taitu, wanted to see the oldest hotel in Ethiopia. Stayed in the old building, paid $150 for a double room in the basement with bathroom. No hot water and the toilet was a little sketchy. Made the mistake of eating supper there, probably not a good place to eat. Overall probably cheap... more

This hotel is located in the Piazza area and is the other cheap backpacker option along with Baro and Wutma down the street. They just raised their rates, so cheapest basement rooms are 66birr or so and cheapest upper rooms also with shared bathroom are 99 birr. 2 people can share the room for this price, which works out cheaper... more

I have stayed at the Taitu on several occasions in the last 18 months. Last summer there was no hot water but that was remedied by my return in March. Especially the "main building" is a quaint old hotel. The shared bathrooms in the main building are only shared by a couple of rooms which don't have en suite bathrooms... more

166 Birr for double room with private bathroom. I liked the atmosphere, having breakfast outside in the morning sun,.. Hot water almost every day. Rooms without private bathroom are a lot cheaper (I think about 65 Birr). more
