Stayed here for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. A car collected us at the airport in the capital and the drive was about 3 and a half hours to the lodge. The lemur park, small zoo and crocdile farm were fun to visit. The room was clean and comfortable. No tv. Very peaceful surroundings. On the second day... more

Stayed for three nights in Sept 2009. We had room 29 which was situated out of the sun, which meant it smelt quite damp...but was clean and comfortable..We enjoyed the stay, Lemur island was great to be up close and personal with the resident Lemurs..I was fortunate to wander up a track and meet the ring tailed lemurs on the... more

SIDE NOTE: This is in the wrong city section. It could be in the Antsirabe too (also about 3 hours from Tana). We were with our 21-year-old son also, who has lived in Madagascar the past two years. He did speak Malagasy and my husband spoke French, so we got along great! It is 3 hours from Antananarivo and the... more

My husband and I travelled to madagascar for our honeymoon - our fist week we spent in anjajavy (we have written a review for that on here), then we came to vakona lodge. Both my husband and myself have done alot of backpacking and our honeymoon was the first ever 'luxury' holiday for both of us. In all the hostels,... more

Only spent one night at Vakona, but it was a good nights sleep in a comfortable, large, clean bungalow. Dinner was well above average, and breakfast was also quite good. The property is very attractive, and there is a nice pool. The only negative is that it is at the end of several km of rough road, but then travel... more

We (a family of 4: 2 adults, 2 teens) stayed in one of the larger family units at this hotel. Note that this hotel is NOT in Antananarivo as a cursory glance at TripAdvisor might imply -- it's actually next to Andasibe, in the rainforest (and a river), and also next to several national parks including Perinet. It takes about... more

Vakona is supposed to be the top place to stay in Andasibe. It probably is. It is just very very commercial, which to me is one negative aspect. This can be viewed as a positive as well, but just does not feel authentic. The bungalow we had was really nice. It was huge (maybe because we booked so late, that... more

First of all the Vakona Lodge is NOT in Antananarivo. Rather it is outside of Andasibe near the Analazamatra National Reserve and Mantadia National Park . The hotel is very good for the location. It was clean and amazing bug free considering you are deep in the rainforest. The food is so so but adequate. The hiking in the area... more

We visited Vakona as part of our honeymoon and had a great time getting up close and personal with the lemurs. After the luxury of our two previous hotels we came down to earth a little at Vakona. Whilst there wasn't much wrong with Vakona it just can't claim to be a luxury hotel. You stay in private lodges which... more

We spent two nights here, as part of a trip to Madagascar. We were fortunate that the weather was kind to us for the whole time - it can rain and rain, as this is part of the tropical forest. The main purpose is to see the lemurs and the sifakas, particularly the indris (their only habitat is about 7km... more
