This small old hotel appears to be a converted house that offers just a few rooms for accomodation. The rooms are nothing fancy but they are clean. The real attraction here is the restaurant, which serves French cusine. The kitchen and wait staff were simply oustanding. more

If you are going to Antananarivo, La Varangue is a safe, westernized place to stay with a mission to help. It was an oasis of calm and thoughtfulness when we became stuck in the city after the struggle for presidency of the country escalated into a coup. In addition to a few BBC and Reuters reporters, we were the only... more

From the moment you enter the gate it is clear that this is a small quality hotel with a difference, with the ambience of a guest house or pensione in Europe in the 1930s. The hotel is studded with an array of curios and artefacts from previous decades. Comfortable rooms, friendly staff and a cosy bar. Absolutely loved it. The... more

Once again, they exceeded expectations. Great, friendly staff, attentive owners and a beautiful old building with great views, all centrally located. What they lack in polish, they more than make up for in friendliness. Could not ask for anything more. more

This is a beautiful location, a wonderful hotel and a superb restaurant. We stayed here twice, both coming and going, and loved it both times. Different rooms, but each charming and well-kept and we felt pampered. The restaurant is the best we had in Madagascar and we loved the different rums. The garden is beautiful and the views from the... more

La Varangue offers a small number of very clean, nicely-decorated and comfortable rooms. The beds have mosquito nets, a welcome extra in a city where it is impossible to escape from the insects. It serves as a comfortable oasis from the polluted - though very interesting and sometimes very quaint - streets of Antananarivo. It has a small bar, a... more

La Varangue We stayed twice in this very good and interesting small hotel situated next to the President’s Palace. The public areas and restaurant are decorated like an antique shop with many brass oil lamps, antique phones and many other items. Our room was large and comfortably furnished in an “old fashioned” style with a good bathroom. The star attraction... more

We really enjoyed our stay here. We had an amazing room (Imperial Suite), with a lounge, guest toilet as well as a main toilet, with a corner bath and shower, as well as two plasma TVs. The staff, from the gardeners to the manager, were very friendly and helpful, and tried their best to communicate with us in English. The... more

This hotel is in a quiet part of Antananarivo and therefore it is peaceful. The hotel has wireless internet, electricity, modern plumbing, and even in room hairdryers and heaters! Mosquito nets provided. The restaurant is great for dinner. The cuisine is French, and although pricey, very, very good. Breakfast I was not as impressed with as there is no choice... more

Beautiful small hotel in a private villa. It has one of the best restaurants in the capital and a very cozy bar. Our room was large with heigh ceilings and wonderful. bed. Modern bathroom. Check it out. It is also in a great neighborhood in the old part of town. more
