Situated next to the Church of St Paul in the centre of town, and run by some rather amusing 'wheeler-dealer' nuns, Hostel St Famille is not really a very good place to stay. Most rooms (6000 RwF) have a communal toilet/shower area, whilst the 'luxury' option (10000 RwF) has en suite bathroom. The rooms are not decorated, nor are they cleaned (unless you insist!), the beds are uncomfortable and are infested with bugs, breakfast is not included, reception is often closed, and the showers only work in the morning and evening.

However, Kigali is a city that has not embraced backpackers, and this is reflected in the range of hotels. Put simply, St Famille is the cheapest hotel in the city by half, I guarantee. Furthermore, it's location is perfect for tourists, it has a pretty garden with nice views of sunset, and is very safe. You should be able to get a discount on a long stay, provided you either speak French or have an Rwandan friend. more
