I stayed at the AWA Plaza on 4 and 5 December 2008, whilst attending the ICASA Conference in Dakar. The hotel was booked for me by the conference organisers. Whilst the hotel has a great location right on the beach the place is completely disorganised and was probably the worst hotel expereince I have had - and I have had many as my work entails travel throughout Southern and Eastern Africa. When I finally arrived at 4am from the airport (it took the taxi driver 2 hours to find the hotel as no-one seemed to know where it was located or had even heard of it!) the night watchman refused to allow me to enter the hotel. He told me that the hotel was full and that he had been given strict instructions not to allow anyone in. I did in fact have a room and even knew the room number as my colleague had arrived the day before and had told me on the phone what my room number was.
