The Druk commands a very central location in Thimpu but thats about the only good thing about this hotel. while the sevice from the desk staff is good the hotel is very tired and in great need of a facelift if it is to compete with other hotels in Thimpu. You can tell that at one point, the Druk Hotel was THE place to stay in Thimphu. I get the feeling that it has rested on its laurels since those days - watching while other superior hotels (Aman & Taj) have gone up. I stayed at the Druk three nights: two nights while on the way to Jakar, and one night on the way back to Paro. While the staff was courteous and the bathrooms were clean, the rooms themselves were dark and dingy. The furniture was old and dirty. And, I heard strange noises coming from the walls. The best hotel in Thimpu. Very courteous staff. Power outages on occasion with candles used in the hallways for light. Rooms are large with adequate facilities. Above average for Bhutan. more

Unless you are willing to shell out $1000/night for the Aman, this is the default choice for most discerning travelers to the Bhutanese capital. The Druk will get some real competition in the years ahead from the Taj (under construction) and Oberoi (planned) and hopefully that will prod the owner of the Druk to make much-needed upgrades and improvements, both... more

A nice hotel in the center of Thimpu. The location is great for walking around and shopping. There is a good sized supermarket nearby. We spent 11 days in Bhutan and the Druk Hotel was by far the most 'western' of the hotels. It had cable TV, a nice warm shower, internet access, and wine available at dinner. A Hyatt it is not but it was a nice change from the other hotels in Bhutan, although we actually really liked the more 'rustic' nature... more
