Despite the issues with no electricity, no hot water and less-than-delicous food options, we loved this hotel and would have gladly stayed longer. It is rustic and cozy, and contributes to an overall wonderful Bhutan experience. more

We weren't warned about the differences in this hotel compared to most hotels until we were almost there. Then we found out that there is no electricity except between 6pm-9pm via generator. There is no hot water in the shower, instead scalding hot water is delivered to your room in buckets, you have to request for the hot water and... more

This hotel is NOT IN THIMPHU. It is in the Phobjika Valley, where the black-necked cranes are. it's a great place, nice atmosphere. The valley does not have electricity, so the generator runs from 5:30pm to 9pm, though there is hot water in the morning for showers then as well. The food was good, and each room has a small... more

This was a great place with delicious food and gorgeous views and hiking over the valley. It's situated near the black necked cranes so you can see them flying around the valley. The rooms were large and the shower was the best we had in Bhutan. Electricity comes on at night and in the morning- very homey feeling and romantic.... more

This hotel is actually not located in Thimphu, but several hours away in the Phobjikha Valley. It's a wonderful, attractive property, located up on a hill with stunning views from every room. The rooms are very large and nicely decorated. The bathrooms are the nicest of all the hotels that we stayed in during our 13 days in Bhutan. Great... more

We had a wonderful stay at the Dewachen. The room was very spacious with great rustic charm (and comfortable king bed - rare in Bhutan!). The staff was also incredibly gracious - from the restaurant to the gentleman refilling the heating stove in the room. The electricity limitations are actually not bad at all - and even add to the... more

My husband and I stayed at the Dewachen in Phobjika Vally for just one night in late April. The hotel was beautiful and the views from the windows in our room (numer 3) of the valley were astounding. The hotel looks like it was built so that all of the rooms have views overlooking the valley. Even in April, it... more

Dewachen Hotel may not be five-star luxury - it lacks the mod-cons, but it boasts of great service, lovely architecture and a very warm and comfy bed! My Bhutan journey was a very challenging one. To get from one valley to the next, we had to drive through passes which are narrow and bumpy. Sometimes we were so close to... more

Bhutan Scenic Tours booked our hotel here which is not in Thimphu. It is in Gangtey, which is a few hours drive from Thimphu. THis hotel is great and in the middle of nowhere, near the black cranes, though we went in May and did not see cranes. We loved the hot stone bath, the great view of the valley... more

The hotel is strategically located close to the black necked crane education/information center. My wife and I stayed at the hotel on 3/06 when the weather was still a bit cool. As a result, stepping into the dining room with the wood-burning stove/heater fired up with a cup of tea was very relaxing. The room is clean and beddings/pillows (Sealy)... more
