The Shangri La is a modern hotel in a reasonable location. My main problem with it is the water in the shower. It pulses hot and then cold, randomly and without warning. We stayed at the Shangri La twice and each time the water problem was the same. Talking with other guests, they also had the same problem. The food... more

Stayed here 3 times during September and October after Everest Base Camp trek and Annapurna Circuit. First, the owners need to fix the plumbing as the showers went from freezing cold to scalding hot or was only lukewarm to start with. I thought this just my room until I discussed it with fellow trekkers and it was a common problem.... more

I stayed here before and after a trek. The garden is beautiful, the people are friendly, the staff is helpful and the hotel itself is class without stuffiness. I highly recommend this hotel. more

Was steered to this hotel when my friends and I booked an organized tour to Nepal via Shangri-La Holidays, which is the tour organizing arm of the hotel. ShangriLa Holidays in themselves are an EXCELLENT group--managing our 8 days with such elan and efficiency--the trip was a joy. We got a chance to sample the two Shangri-La hotels as per... more

Pros: Reasonably quiet - front facing rooms have a row of shops to buffer the street noise; back facing rooms look out over the garden and restaurant. Excellent buffet breakfast with omelet chef who cooks to order. Cons: Only 3/4 mile from Thamel area, but sidewalks are so broken up that it's impossible to walk far, especially at night. Bathroom... more

After a disastrous experience at the dingy Royal Singi, I moved to the Shangri-La. It was a paradise. I had a ground floor room overlooking gorgeous and well-manicured gardens. As a disabled traveler, this was a great plus for me. The room was large and nicely appointed. Everything was clean and in excellent condition. Breakfast on the terrace or in... more

Rated four stars in our guidebook, lovely old fashioned hotel. We were in room 216, double bed with pretty garden view. Quiet, insulated from the hustle and bustle and reality of the city. Long walk to the Thamel area. more

With the end of the civil - political crisis in Nepal, tourists are coming back. This year, prices have almost doubled at the Radisson, where I used to stay for years and years... I decided to go 200 meter further, to stay at the Shangri-La. And I loved the atmosphere, old-fashioned, especially having a drink at the end of the... more

We were quite suprised considering it's a Shangri La that it really could do with a refurb - some bits look really tired. We first stayed on the 3rd floor and it was like staying at a Travelodge but then stayed on the 4th floor - so much better. The gardens are lovely and peaceful and it's only 20 min... more
