We stayed at The Atlanta for 2 nights and will return for another 1-2 nights this week. We had a pleasant stay. The staff is very friendly, the rooms have no luxury but everything one really needs (Air conditioning, clean, calm). The restaurant has low prices and a high quality. The many rules on display on their website and in... More

Haven for a certain type of guest. Solo travellers, Hipsters, Senior globetrotters. Like something out of a Kubrick movie. Has a history. Great pool. cheap rooms. decent food. Bangkok's best kept little secret.

Staff are sullen bordering on rude. Rooms are clean but would remind a nun of a convent cell. WiFi only available in public rooms, which are interesting but lack air conditioning. Attitude toward customer satisfaction - documented on website and lobby signs reflects management attitudes to customers - "we don't care about so called reviews". There are better budget hotels!

The hotel is old and seems to come out directly from the 60's which we found very nice and interesting with my wife but it s very clean, especially the bathroom. The location is also very good as it is at the end of a very small street (soy). And there is a swimming pool! The restaurant looks like Happy... More

The Atlanta is situated at the end of a quiet soi between the Calvary Baptist church and Annie's soapy massage, but you are left in no doubt as to which end of the moral spectrum the hotel occupies. Large notices everywhere announce that sex tourists are not welcome and that this is a clean-living family hotel. This is fine and... More

Great foyer, above average food at cheap prices. Rooms were standard / bare. comfy bed and well functioning bathroom. bright fluorescent lights only available in room. 1 electrical outlet in room. pool is in major need of restoration. wifi fast but only really works in lobby/foyer.

Truly fascinating insight of a bygone era. I have never been in a hotel with such exotic approach to guests; take it or leave, basically. Reading through the instructions and advises (they are all over the place, and for everything) it's hilarious. Cheap, clean, good location and a unique character. Will do it again and recommend as well.

Atlanta Hotel has been my Thai gateway hotel for the past 12 years. The hotel is an oasis in the otherwise super busy Sukhumvit area (located at the very end of Soi 2). The rooms are basic (bed, desk, clothes rack,) and very clean. My only complaint, common with many other hotels throughout the world, is that the pillows are... More

This hotel is a little unusual in the fact that it used to be a herpetological house, a snake farm in other words.. a famed herpetologist bequeathed the property to his son in the early sixties and he took advantage of the new wave of tourism, the GI's on RnR to create a safe haven for those looking beyond the... The Atlanta Hotel is a affordable hotel that will make you think it's 1940 or so. It is far out of step with the fast pace of Bangkok outside it's doors. It is beautiful to experience the lobby, restaurant, staircases, front desk-that must be why they film so many movies/TV shows here (they were fliming something on my floor when... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The historic Atlanta Hotel in Bangkok is, literally, untouched by modern pop culture. Walking into The Atlanta is like walking into another world, a long lost world. Most of what a guest sees and hears is old and classic - and authentic. ***The Atlanta Hotel in Bangkok, founded in 1952, features many superlatives, notably, the most photographed and oldest unaltered hotel lobby in Thailand, the first hotel swimming (diving) pool in Thailand, the largest selection of Thai vegetarian dishes in the world, a unique jungle-like garden right in the middle of Bangkok. The western menu features dishes made in the 1950s style - dishes that were on the original menu of The Atlanta, and prepared in the same way. ***The historic Atlanta Hotel in Bangkok has strict policies: sex-tourists, drug users, trouble-makers, and undomesticated people are not welcome. Any of these found on the premises are dealt with summarily. Because of these strict policies, The Atlanta Hotel has many detractors or even enemies. The Atlanta Hotel upholds its principles and policies without compromise. As of 1st September 2013, smoking will no longer be permitted anywhere on the premises. ***The Atlanta Hotel is also home to destitute cats and terrapins. Injured and abandoned cats seem to find their way to The Atlanta. Many are rescued from elsewhere. There are at the time of writing 36 cats. Some live in an enclosure on one side of the garden; others live in the staff section of the hotel. The terrapins are all rescued and saved from loss of habitat. There are at the time of writing 27 terrapins. They live well in and around the pond of the jungle-like garden of The Atlanta. Two staff are employed full-time to look after the animals, and visiting vets often volunteer their services, which The Atlanta welcomes. There is a celebrated drawing by a regular guest of The Atlanta of the lobby featuring cats lying on the round sofa. The caption reads (in Italian), "Cats, the real guests of The Atlanta." Guests of The Atlanta are typically animal lovers. *** The Atlanta, being at the bottom of a lane, has no passing trade. All our guests are either regulars or friends of regulars. The Atlanta has many returning guests who have been coming to The Atlanta since the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and, of course, much later. ... more   less
