I have stayed here two times already, one of them being during crazy New Year's Eve in Bangkok. I definetely would recommend coming here, especially if you're a solo traveller. This is not a fancy building or a boutique hostel, but it has got you covered on everthing you need - and what really matters - good beds and blankets,... More

i first went here to check out the place before flying to krabi & they were nice enough to let me use the wifi without booking a room so i went back a few days later when i got back to bangkok. perfect for what i wanted, to be away from khaosan & its right in the centre of Bangkok... More

Soi 1 Guesthouse, Sukhumvit puts you right in the centre of the action in Bangkok and serves as a useful hub for young travellers entering or leaving Thailand for the first time. The owner Dave is Western, which helps settle you in, and is a goldmine of information about the local area but also gives handy tips about Thai culture... More

Pros: 1. Very well located, 2. Very helpful and knowledgeable owner, 3. Lots of notes to help you go around, 4. They arranged our bus to get to Siem Reap, which was comfortable. Cons: 1. Bed was uncomfortable, 2. AC barely worked. All in all, a mixed stay.

After being let down by another hostel, this place came up as a perfect location for those who aren't tourists.. I needed to be amongst people that were treading the same path as me, and this place nailed it. On entering - because the owner is Australian - there are notes everywhere giving amazing tips and advice, not just for... More

After being diagnosed with Dengue fever from a recent trip to Cambodia, I decided to recover in Bangkok for 2 weeks. I did not hesitate to return to Soi 1 guesthouse where I had a pleasant stay before. Dengue is not contagious so I knew that I could recover in the dorm especially since I needed to take naps and... I have stayed at the Soi 1 guest Ouse twice now and would not hesitate to go back again. A very friendly atmosphere with a safe and secure environment for any backpacker travelling to Bangkok. both the dorm rooms and smaller rooms are very good for backpacker standards with plenty of facilities, a 7/11 just down the road and very... I think Explorer333 (below) has it nailed. I stayed in Khao San Road on my return to Bangkok and compared with the Sukhumvit area I was dissapointed. There is lots of action around this part of Bangkok, plenty of bars and restaurants and its right next to the Skytrain which is cheap as chips. Dave was a great host and... More

Those in the know stay at Soi 1. Soi 1 is not for everyone. This is why I love it. Every single detail about Dave's place is geared towards experience-seeking travelers. It's well-worn enough to keep out the tourists, and priced just high enough to keep out the hippies. Plenty of great restaurants/shopping/actitivies/bars around, and the location is absolutely perfect.... More
