I stayed at the Galare guest house back in 2006 and returned this year for a 4 night stay. The Galare is just as I remembered it. The furnishings may look a little dated but I think this is the Thai style. The rooms have everything you could need, refrigerator (a little dated but working fine), air conditioning, fan, a... more

The Galare experience was a perfect mental massage after the hustle of Bangkok! We stepped into a gentle world of courtesy, calm, and considerable charm. …Lush tropical flowering plants, beautiful wooden Lanna style architecture and, to cap it all, the River Ping flowing modestly at the bottom of the property. Beauty and environment were balanced with other essentials, like all-smiles... more

This guest house is at the end of a small road about 5 minute walk from the night bazaar so the location is quite good, but there isn’t much directly around the guest house it’s self. The staff seemed friendly, one of them gave us a lift to Doi Suthep in her car (for a small fee). We rented a... more

The Galare Guest House is a hidden gem. Beautifully constructed with Lanna style wood detail and plenty of open spaces for guests to visit, it is a great place to find quiet and relaxation among the busy streets of Chiang Mai. We stayed here for several days before and after a trek we booked with Poytin at the tour desk.... more

My Thanxz to the management and staff of the Galare Guest House. The rooms were inexpensive, yet very nice. The Resturant was Super with a very enjoyable, relaxing veiw of the Ping River. My Wife and I found the Front Desk to be most helpful obtaining information of the local sites and attractions as well as bookings. I highly recomment... more

We spent 5 nights at the Galare. I've eaten a lot of Thai Food and have to say that the restaurant on the premises was very good...and pretty cheap. The rooms are a bit dark, but for around $35 per night they were more than sufficient. The hotel is right on the Ping river, which you have a view of... more

I should have known better than to book this place - it was listed in the Lonely Planet, and so far I have never found a good hotel through them! We paid $40 US per night without breakfast, which we initially thought was fairly good value, but after spending some time in Chiang Mai, realized we could do much better.... more

As most people who travel to Thailand know, saying "Friendly Thai" is redundant; these are the most warm and friendly people in the world. The people at Galare Guest House take this over the top. I got very ill in my visit to Chiang Mai and the people at Galare Guest House went way out of their way to help.... more

We booked the Galare having seen it in Rough Guide and checked other reviews. It was down a small lane, backing onto the Ping River. It was quiet, rooms were large and clean. Bed was huge and very comfortable. The room was cleaned every day. Breakfast was not included but we ate brekkie there on the terrace overlooking the river.... more

Stayed here for 3 nights. I hadn't been there for 7 or 8 years, but the staff remembered me. I love the open-air restaurant, right on the river. They've added a Japanese chef and a full menu of Japanese food, in addition to Western and Thai. The room was comfortable and spacious, and a bargain. There's no pressure to buy... more
