We stayed at the Chaweng Beach Resort which was fantastic. Beautiful gardens and pools, right on the beach, rooms excellent and good range of options and the staff were excellent. If you want a resort experience is as good as any.

Koh Samui itself did not live up to my expectations. The elephant ride tourist park was disappointing and whilst I appreciate the need for the locals to make a living the elephants were kept in appalling conditions. The other attractions at this place were lame. The big buddha was very commercialised and the island itself not as beautiful as I expected. Constant harrassment by hawkers wears thin. Shopping disappointing but the restaurants were excellent though. Nightlife a bit sleazy, obviously a hangout for middle aged men to pick up young asian girls. more

I returned from BB Chaweng about 3 weeks ago..... I am a single female in my late 30's and felt safe 99% of the time. Having just escaped the riots in Bangkok this is saying a lot!!!
The reception staff were great, friendly, funny and sooo helpful.
The cleaners quite good and very quiet and obliging.
The beds were a little hard but having stayed in 3 hotel's in Bangkok & Koh Samui this seems to be the typical thing for Thai beds.
Location wise you are right in the centre of shopping, restaurants, the beach and bars & clubs. No need to ever catch a taxi. Remember that most shops open after 5 in Koh Samui so u are forced to do nothing but relax - my daily plan consisted of waking at 9... sauntering down to a buffet breakfast with a sea breeze over looking the beach - of fruit; cereals; toast; pastries; an asian dish; cooked American breakfast and juices & coffee.
