Found this place in Phnom Phen on my third day in the city and it was a oasis. I stayed in the lakeside area for the first night as recommended by Lonely Planet and other travelers but it was a mistake. The area is shut off from the rest of the city and the guesthouses area dirty. I stayed in a $5 hotel the second night but this place--Chivas Shack is right on the riverside, run by a family, near all the good bars and resturaunts and perfect for the any traveler. Its clean, cheap($5) for a double bed and has a pool table, excellent food, and perfect locations from which to explore the city. Unless you are trying to live on one dollar a day, make your way to this place as it has excellent locale, is impeccably clean, near all the right places and just opened 7 months ago(new beds and sheets). Really, it was like an oasis from the filth of lakeside guesthouses and the impersonal/expensive hotels in the riverside area. Goto Chivas Shack, the family makes it the best. more
