I had a family room to myself which was really nice for the money, I think i paid about $60 a night and had a huge room but, no hot water. To be honest you don't really need hot water most of the year. If you do stay I reckon get a family room to yourself or between two more

This is an old elegant colonial hotel. I have stayed here twice, and it is my favourite in Phnom Pen. I would compare it to the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is a place for people who value character and history over modern comfort. I think this place is romantic, and would recommend this to friends who didn't... more

This is one of the nicest places to stay in Asia, let alone Cambodia. It is a graceful old french villa which is slowly being restored set in huge gardens overlooking the budhist architecture of the imperial palace. The rooms are modern and nicely fitted out. All for around US35. It is only three minutes walk from the river cafes... more

For 50 Dollars we got a room without hot water and the TV and room safe were broken. The bath towels were dirty and the room looked in need of a good clean. We had to share our bathroom and bedroom with several very large cockroaches and many mosquitoes. The real problem was the scam run by reception staff. We... more

The Renakse is a beautiful French colonial building in a lovely garden. The foyer is ornately tiled and open to the breeze, a good place to rest out of the mid-day heat. And just as well, because our room was not a place you'd want to spend too much time in. It was dark, with the only window opening onto... more

I am going to get down to it: Good: location is wonderful for checking out Royal Palace, riverfront, easy walk to nearby restaurants, decent air con, room was interesting, quiet. Unfortunately for the price there were other hotels in the area with more to offer. Bad: the hotel seemed a little run down, storage in random places, needs some updating.... more

We stayed at the renakse during the first weekend of May 2007. I can't believe that the lonely planet suggests this place as a splurge. The hotel itself is beautiful as is the location but that is where the good things end. The towels smelled moldy, the aircon didn't work, the hot water didn't work there wasn't any toilet paper.... more

I've stayed at the Renakse a couple of times (in 2000 & 2006). I love the location - near the river and opposite the palace but not much else. The rooms are overpriced and full of mosquitoes. The service is, at best, indifferent. The hotel offers airport pick-up but don't hold your breath. If you like the Fawlty Towers kind... more
