As a seasoned Asian expat and traveller, I understand all about budget hotels in Asia. But this one is wrong. Ok, it's a bit of a ladies hangout, you can like that or hate that, but being set up by a couple of the ladies there, one of who claimed she 'worked' there, was not a good look. The room... More

For the money paid. This is a good deal. Opposite Heart Of Darkness. Next to Zeppelin Cafe. A good Chinese restaurant just down the road. Walking distance to the major mall in PP. People watching. Looking at perverted old dudes talking about their glory days and trying to score with the numerous ladies. Not for family though. The bar is... More

This is a review of my 05MAY11 stay at the Walkabout Hotel in Phnom Penh. I was in PNH for a 3-day stay, visiting friends who live and work in the city. I elected to stay one night so that I could also stay at the Paragon Hotel and conduct a follow-up review to that property as well. Hotel/Location: The... More

Had a great stay at the Walkabout. bars open 24hrs a day Walking distance to all the best night time spots. Heart of Darkness Howies Shanghai all on the same street. Cheap drinks and food. My room was $14 a night and cleaned every day. Met some interesting people there and cant wait to get back. More

Wrong place in every possible way Walkabout is absolutely wrong choice in every possible way. 1. Looking for cheap and clean hotel? Because Walkabout’s rooms are dirty, grimy and closer to cell than hotel room, the rooms are very very expensive! Furniture are almost holding together and toilet is…hmmm.. experience. And I got so called “better room”. As of me,... More

This place was cheap in more ways than one. After we'd paid for a room and were about to head up to it a Cambodian lady (under the influence) fell down the steep stairs leading up to the bedrooms and cut her hand on a glass. It was a terrible experience, watching her scream as the security guard dragged her... More

I had intended staying a few days and pre-booked it. This hotel was recommended to me by a mate. I left after first night. So what do you get for $15 a night? * Hotel located in slum district. * Surrounding streets have uncollected garbage piled 4 feet high. (And the surrounding area smells like a garbage dump 24-7) *... Visited twice this year (2007) after recommendations of friends. I had some misgivings regards coming back to this part of the world after being around here in late 60s, early 70s. Initial visit curtailed after 2 days due to family emergency at home. Owner Glen and his staff (including manager Mol) were very helpful in assisting me to immediately get... More

Being a landowner, and visitor to Cambodia beginning in 1969 (courtesy of the US Navy!), and re-commencing annually since the defeat of the Khmer Rouge by the Vietnamese military, I have stayed at many hotels within the country. The Walkabout has been my usual choice for a hotel to stay at when I arrive in Phnom Penh on my annual... More

having stayed in the walkabout i wholeheartedly agree with the previous reviewer all hotel owners should make an effort with their appearance especially in the tropics possibly taking a cue from bogart in casablanca white tails being so practical perhaps all budget hotels should also consider a grand piano! and god forbid theowner should be friendly with his customers having...
