A 15 year old building that appears to have been poorly maintained since its constrcution. The staff could not show me a room with working air conditioning and all lights functioning after an hour of trying. None of the staff knew when the air condiitoners had last been serviced but the accumulated filth in them indicated a considerable time ago.... more

TV may not be important to some travellers, but the Royal Dok was the first place I've stayed in three months of touring SE Asia that didn't have a single English TV station. The hotel is very well located in Vientiane, close to the Monument. Everything OK, although nothing special to mention. We enjoyed the Morning Market, close from the hotel, where you can buy lots of traditional laotian handycrafts. Very cheap, but you have to bargain anyway! But it's even cheaper in Luang Prabang, if you are going there as well. more
