stayed 2 nights beginning of march 2013. all you need to see and visit is in walking distance (almost). night market, restaurants, museum, mekong. Rooms are clean and spacious with aircon. staff is friendly and breakfast ok. if i ever go to vientiane again i would choose lao orchid again.

Stayed at the Lao Orchid last week, room 207, facing the Wat across the street. The room was clean and comfortable with a spacious bathroom. The hotel's employees are pleasant and were helpful. Good clean central hotel, friendly staff. We had a room at the front of the hotel with views of the temple across the road and the Mekong to our right and the town to the left. Nice terrace bar to sit and watch the world go by.

I stayed 2 nights and found this to be a good base. Front rooms can be noisy so go for back-facing rooms on the higher floors eg 401, 402, 403, 404 Restaurant food was good and fairly easy free wifi access around the hotel, plus three PCs for guest use. Better than I expected.

Unsuspecting travelers should beware of in-room safe offered in this hotel, as well as several others in Laos.
