This was the first place we stayed in Sri Lanka and it was the perfect way to experience the beauty and hospitality of the country. The bungalow is a grand house with a lovely garden and outside seating. The location of the house is quite nice although it is far from the main attractions of the city. The rooms are clean, comfortable and have a balcony. But what really made me fall in love with this place is the host, Chula and her cooking. She made traditional Sri Lankan breakfast for us and I absolutely loved the food! It was hand’s down the best meal I’ve had in Sri Lanka. Also for all the tea lovers, Chula was always enough to give me a cup of tea no matter what time we reached back.

This was a beginning of our ten day journey and it was a great starter. Very friendly housewife who made us delicious traditional breakfast every morning. Her fresh fruit juices were the best we had in Sri Lanka. We spent hours in her peaceful garden. She put a lot of effort to make us feel welcome and comfortable.

As soon as you walk into this guesthouse you know a loving and kind family call it home. We were greeted with a fresh cup of tea in the living room before being shown to our room upstairs. The room itself was very clean and cosy with an adjoining bathroom (usually shared with a separate bedroom which could get awkward for couples). The bed was a bit on the hard side though which I'm sure is perfect for some! And the lighting the the room may need looking at - it's quite dark! Also, keep in mind that the location is not within walking distance of the major sites but buses are easy enough. And while there may not be too many restaurants/ bars in this very residential area - never fear, the food here is phenomenal!! We were treated with fresh hoppers (and a demonstration) and delicious curry for dinner. …

We arrived after a long flight to a lovely warm welcome and greeted with warm tea and fruit juice, very refreshing. We got to chat a little with the owners of the house and settle into our room before our evening meal. We had a lovely traditional Sri Lankan meal that you can request. The breakfast served the next day was a delight. The egg hoppers were the best we had in Sri Lanka and is a recipe I have taken home with me. Our room was lovely and the house was lovely too, it was nice to experience Sri Lanka living. I would definitely suggest a home stay as part of your holiday. This is a great place to stay if you are in Colombo or if you need some rest after a long flight before travelling further into Sri Lanka.

I stayed at the Delma Bungalow for one night in January of this year. Manel and Chula (the owners) are very nice and the accommodation is excellent. The Bungalow is also in a great location; just a short walk from the Sri Lankan Parliament Complex in Colombo. And the food...I had many fantastic meals while I was in Sri Lanka; but I can honestly say that the meal I had at Delma Bungalow was the best meal I had in Sri Lanka. සම්බන්ධයෙන්!

I looked through loads of places to stay for my first 2 nights in Sri lanka and chose demba bungalow because it looked like a serene and beautiful place and I read reviews about excellent food. I am a chef and was totally thrilled with everything and especially the food. Very friendly, they also gave me a great amount of help and advice for the rest of my trip. 5 stars

The house is very hard to find. The pin on google maps does not point to the exact location. We had to roam around for 20 kms before reaching the house. There was not even a water bottle in the room for the night. The mistress dint bother giving one. We were told to eat at the parliament lake food court and told it was walkable. But it was around 3.5 kms far. The bed was not comfortable and we could see the iron springs below. We were told not to use the AC , paying 50 dollars, we expect to get such facilities. I paid half in other places and availed such a facility. The bathroom was outside the room. The do have a curtain to make it private, but still I prefer the bathroom to be attached to the room. The wifi signal was very week in the room.

Response from Chula Manel D, Owner at Delma Bungalow
Responded 7 Feb 2015
Thank you for your feedback. Your experience is valuable to better serve our guests. Delma Bungalow is an Eco friendly home. Hence as a policy, we don't provide plastic water bottles, but we do boil and filter the water which is stored in a jug and kept in all our rooms for our guests. All guests who reserve the Delma Bungalow rooms are sent a confirmation email along with a detailed map on how to get to the bungalow. Sri Lanka is a developing country. Most of the by-roads do not have sign boards/name boards. Therefore, verbal directions to the Delma Bungalow would mislead first time travellers. Hence we advise using the drawn//detailed map given by us during the booking. Our rates and additional fees are clearly mentioned on our website/booking sites. We don't want our guests to experience last minute surprises with additional rates. Also our rates are fixed and not open to bargaining. We also mention about the Wireless being available in common areas. The rooms might get access to wireless but it won't be as strong as the common areas. We are a home-run business and our goal is to provide our guests with the Sri Lankan traditions/culture which won't be available in hotels in most cases. Please see the pictures of our rooms and bathrooms for a better clarification on our facilities. Once again, thank you for your feedback. And apologize for your inconveniences.

My husband and I spent three nights at the Delma Bungalow B&B early December 2014. Owners Chula & Manel were excellent hosts with an amiable and genial disposition that made you feel comfortable the moment you set foot in their beautiful home. They treat their guests lavishly and nothing seems too difficult when it comes to pleasing their guests. The Breakfasts are typical Sri Lankan (although they do also cater to the western palate) and absolutely scrumptious, mouth watering and substantial. Dinner is available with prior notice for an additional fee. All in all it was a most enjoyable stay at Delma Bungalow. Colvin and Sue

Me and my husband stayed here for a day when we came to visit Colombo in Jan. Firstly they dont have any sign boards that direct you to this homestay nor the Google Maps are updated. When you call the owner , she doesn't know how to explain the route . We were 2min away from the house and when asked for the route , she told us to take a route which was 10km away and upon again calling , she just dint know how to explain where her house was. We wasted 25km up and down searching for the house . The owner served us fruit juice upon reaching and there was an ant roaming in the glass. Quite annoying when we traveled for 5hrs from Nuwara eliya to colombo and you are really tired and wanna have something to refresh you. The room was just an average one. Two single cots which are really uncomfortable ones because of the springs. If you on AC it is 10$ per night which is so funny because the room rates itself are so high . The breakfast was good though , not to deny ! There house is surrounded by Gardens which is definitely nice ambiance but full of mosquitoes inside their home. The house is really nicely furnished , but the room we were allotted in the ground floor was just OK. Also the area where the house is located is good ,you can a lot of eateries around the house. The Parliament house is close by.…

Response from Chula Manel D, Owner at Delma Bungalow
Responded 7 Feb 2015
Thank you for providing us with your feedback. When a guest reserve our homestay rooms online, as a policy we send a confirmation email along with a detail direction map to the Delma Bungalow. We recommend the guest to have a printout with themselves to avoid any miscommunication. In Sri Lanka there are many by-roads without any names. Therefore for a first time visitor, it might be confusing to understand the directions given verbally. Therefore using a printout of the detailed map is advised. Please feel free to inform the Delma Bungalow host as soon as you experience anything unpleasant with the food. We are very concerned about the hygienic conditions of food preparation. If the complaint was made at that time, the host will generously make another drink and provide to the guest. Room rates and pictures of the beds are posted on our website and the booking website. The additional cost of the A/C USD 10 is mentioned on the website. Therefore, when a guest reserves a room, we advise the guest to read about the amenities and rates provided before the reservation is confirmed. Please note that our room rates are fixed and not open to bargain prices. Please also note that this is a "Home Stay" and not a hotel. We want our guests to experience the Sri Lankan culture by living in our home. We are doing this business because we are passionate about sharing our culture and making friends with people all around the world. Thank you for your valuable feedback and once again we apologize for your inconveniences.
