I stayed here in October of 2012 because my flight connecting flight was cancelled. I didn't have a hostel booked and my main priority was to have a hostel near public transportation. The Old City Esma didn't disappoint. It was a short two to three minute walk from the Sultanahmet tram stop. Very easy to get here from Ata-Turk airport.... More

I originally chose this hostel because of the great reviews and price. I would not recommend staying here for an extended period of time. There was always a long wait for the bathrooms (of the four bathrooms only one had consistent hot water). REALLY loud music almost every night (we were on the third floor). Tiny room (2 beds) with... Spent 5 great days in Istanbul and this hostel was definitely a part of this amazing experience. Very friendly people (and super nice owners, Anna Karenina says hi!), clean facilities, nice breakfasts. When we arrived we booked double room with shared bathroom but got an upgrade for 2 double beds and a private bathroom. Location is fantastic, you can have... More

Had nothing but a good experience with this hostel and the staff. Free breakfast (bread, spreads, fruit, boiled eggs etc.), free WIFI, great location at budget price and very helpful staff. While I was travelling throughout Turkey (before returning back to Istanbul), a staff member gave me his contact details just in case I got into any trouble. Staff were... More

Cant get a better location for this price. literally a stones throw away from every major istanbul sight. Rooms are a bit cramped, but thats ok cause in this part of town you cant ask for anythign better. tho for a long stay would recommend to just stay on the asian side.

Pros: Amazing helpful staff, very friendly. Best location in town, both for Aya Sofia and the tram stop. Average turkish breakfast. Great mood at common area on roof top. Cons: Not recommend this hostel for private rooms ensuite, very low cleanliness and stinky toilets. Separate building for the private rooms. Bottom line: Great bet for dorms and meet backpackers. The hostel location is very nice in the old city center of Istanbul. the prices are also fair! the on-roof bar for the breakfast is a fantastic place and the interior design is beautiful. but the beds and the bathroom are not very high quality. the staff are friendly and kind.

Stayed in old city esma hotel at the beginning of December, within walking distance of major tourist spots in Sultanahmet, free breakfast and wifi, definitely helped me keep within a budget and save more money for souvenirs and attractions. Really enjoyed my stay there, rooms and shared bathrooms were clean, staff were friendly and helpful. Only complaint was the creaky... More

My Girl freind and another traveller stayed in this hostel, It was a room for 4 and clean beds, the shared bathroom was clean, fanstastic place close to the blue mosque and other historic locations, close to public transport and bars and resturants. our short stay got even shorter with so much to do around. high fives to the stars/staff!!
