Amid the hustle and bustle of Jerusalem's narrow cobbled market streets is this unexpected oasis, surprising and wonderful. Having been to Jerusalem many times before and stayed in hotel, I took some foreign visitors to the Austrian Hospice for its location and originality, not knowing what to expect. I usually opt for high end hotels for the luxuries they offer,... More

The LOCATION is perfect, it’s an oasis in the old town. There’s a big terrace on the roof to sunbathe, appreciate stunning views of the city or drink something in the evening and have a chat. There’s a garden where you can stay drinking or eating food from the austrian bar/cafe. When you are there you feel safe and at... More

The Austrian hospice is a fabulous place to stay right in the middle of the Old City, near the Damascus Gate. The rooms are large, though modestly furnished. Do not expect 5 star facilities. The cost is very fair considering the location. The buffet breakfast is very good. The hospice itself is glorious, there is so much history. It is... More

The Austrian Hospice has a fantastic location, right next to Damascus gate, the rooms are large, clean and good value, the garden pleasant, the rooftop views across Jerusalem are unbelievable - and the iced coffee was fantastic. But..the attitude of the staff at reception was very poor. I arrived early in the afternoon and asked if I could check in... More

It was upon a recommendation from another traveller to stay here, and glad I did. Excellent central location wirh safe and secure access, quirky to be in midst of Middle East in Jereusalem eating schnitzel and drinking Austrian beer in a hospice of all places. Facilities great and spotlessly clean, female dorm spacious with locker, if i'd had a larger... More

If you are a christian and the antique atmosphere of a religious hospice is what you are willing to find in Old Jerusalem, then head to the Austrian Hospice on the via crucis (via Dolorosa). This has nothing to do with being religious, you'll just find the perfect environment for a culturally inspired trip to Israel. So forget about the... More

The location is great (apart from the proximity to the mosque - do bring ear plugs) and the place is austere but nice. It's the atmosphere that ruins it - an atmosphere created by humourless, self-righteous, dishonest and suspicious Austrian religious who run the place. My travel companion and I arrived after 30 hours of travel from Australia - and... More

Location deff. dictates price for this hostel as the rooms are bare + basic - it felt like a Parador gone terribly wrong!! Bathroom like in the cheapest DFDS ferry cabins. Adjacent Mosque call to prayer will wake you at 4-45am unless you take earplugs, as was said and even then? Great views from roof as was said tho. Breakfast... More

We have just left Jerusalem after 3 nights in this gem of a hotel. Everything in the lonely planet guide is true. It is in a great location, close to all the major sights in the old city and easily accessible from the central bus station on the JLR. Our room was huge, with very comfortable beds. Breakfast was also... More
