The Esteghlal used to be the Hilton pre-revolution. There was room when I stayed, whereas the Homa, my normal hotel, was full. Rooms at the Esteghlal are probably better than the Homa, largely due to the more modern bathrooms (I stayed in the East tower, which is the newer wing). Rooms are reasonably large, with double beds and a small... more

The "Hilton" obviously has not been refurbished since 1979, but nevertheless it remains the only "Grande Dame" Hotel in town. I was unlucky enough to stay in the old wing, but only paid US$ 150 as a walk-in-rate. The view from the 9th floor was fantastic. The service at the outdoor restaurant was very friendly. The breakfast was just about... more

Stayed for 4 nights in the old wing. Room/bathroom were old and dated and would be at 3-star level at best. General service was poor- reception in particular was unhelpful. Staff would agree to do something but would not follow-thru; it took half a day and multiple reminders to get an adaptor. Food in restaurant was decent especially the lunch... more

A pleasant enough sort of place, restaurants and food could do with some improvement and wifi could be added to rooms. That apart the desk staff and business centre staff were all very helpful and pleasant. Room was fine, quite well appointed, clean and tidy and warm in the sub zero temperatures outside. Most foreigners visiting Tehran seem to stay... more

Spend several nights in the Estghlal Grand in Tehran. In a goed area, nearby the Valli Asr Street, and the Mellat Park. The view of the hotel is stunning. Mountains, mountains!! The red carpet invites you to come in when you enter. The lobby is big', bright and spacious. Friendly staff, as most of the Iranian people are. My room... more

Not to be compared to European 5 stars, but very decent. Make sure you stay in the west wing which has been restored. A few details, like the carpet in the corridors, need seeing to, the air conditioning and some of the furniture are still the original 70s' Hiltons' but in good shape (besides, I am not fussy and find... more

This was my first visit to Iran. The Hotel was not as bad as it's been rated here in Tripadvisor. I was acually impressed b/c I didn't think Iran was as nice as it was, especially this hotel. I personally don't think of it as a 5 star hotel, but it was very nice, very clean, the food is delicious,... more

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Esteghlal in Dec 2007. We arrived very early on our first morning there, and were able to eat the breakfast buffet that comes with the room. The buffet is quite extensive (breads, melon, cheese, yogurts, eggs, breakfast meats, tea, coffee, juices). We went up to our room after breakfast, it was located... more

DO NOT STAY HERE!! Even my Iranian friends were shocked at my experience of this hotel. US $220 for a small, dark, tired looking room in the 'refurbished wing'. Arrived at 8pm - needed shirt ironed for meetings next day. was told that no iron available. asked for laundry - but it had closed at 6pm and wouldnt be open... more
