It is supposed to be a four-star property, but I would liken it to rooms over a pub. Very tired decor, dusty blankets, barely adequate bathroom, all browns and greens. Everyone smokes everywhere in the hotel, including the lifts. The staff are barely civil at times, especially if you query something, although we did get a man in a leather... more

Stayed here for three nights as part of the VJV Tour. The Hotel is probably past its best by date but was clean and served its purpose. We toured from the Hotel each day so location was no great problem, we visited the Mall and found that to be new and clean and tidy. Ate two nights in the Hotel... more

The Reception staff were O.K., but the remainder were surly and clearly not used to giving service. The effort of smiling was well beyond them. The bar prices were high and the food was poor, particularly the breakfast. The rooms are dated, but clean. more

Spent one night at the Carlton as part of a large tour. Whilst it was not the worst hotel we stayed in in Syria, it was not very good. The rooms were very dated and the bed was uncomfortable. The food was fine for a hotel of its kind. We took the hotel taxi into town which cost S£200. He... more

Stayed as part of a VJC tour. We would not have chosen this hotel if travelling as independant tourists. The reception area, bar and restaurant are basically fine, nothing special but OK. We ate in the hotel one night (again part of the tour) a buffet meal-very uninspiring. Breakfast was OK-no fresh juice, various meats/cheeses, bread eggs and french pastries.Bar... more

I think the reviews are a little harsh - I've stayed there twice and the hotel is essentially dull, but functional and I had no real complaints - the food is dull, but fine and there is good choice; the rooms are dull, but very clean; the reception is fine; the views are admittedly bad in my experience. I would... more

Not bad considering the proximity to the mall, and the city center. Great food and hospitality, but you are not in luxury here!. more

Stayed for 3 nights as part of a Voyages Jules Verne package tour. Room on 1st floor was reasonably clean. Kept awake until 0330 on first night from noise of a wedding reception on 6th floor and until the same time on the 3rd night due to noise from the night club situated below my room. Charged US$15 for 3... more

We only stayed here one night, thank goodness. It is actually OK downstairs in the lounge and bar area and the prices are ok. The bedrooms have a lot to be desired, perhaps the first clue should be the tag on the door to list the faults wrong in the room. Had a lovely view overlooking the air-conditioning units and... more

The Carlton is located in a modern, business district, a short taxi ride away from Central Damascus. As previously stated, check-in was fast and efficient with no problems. I was part of a group but as I was on my own, I was half-expecting a tiny single room the size of a small bathroom, but I'm pleased to say my... more
