We have stayed at Cara Lodge several times. each time before flying into Karanambu. The service is great; the food is great. Well worth the money. more

I stayed at Cara in November 2008 and September 2009. It is clean and comfortable, and the historic architecture is charming. Food is pretty good, although certainly more expensive than if you stepped out on the town for local grub. Still, we ate here for several meals for the sheer convenience and delight of eating in the courtyard under the... more

As the previous contributor says, a big difference in room quality here, we stayed one night at either end of our trip into the interior, having prebooked Executive rooms. Our room on the first night was poor.On our return ,the room was much better, bigger, and opening out directly over the central courtyard. Both rooms apparently came under the description of "Executive",... more

I stayed here in the spring of 2008 and again in October 2009. Physical descriptions of facility and rooms in other postings are generally accurate. I've seen quite a few of the other rooms here and it's true that some are slightly better situated than others. I've always had 112 and 113 and they get my thumbs up. The two... more

As others have said: lovely old colonial building. Lots of wood. Lovely public areas: comfy sofas, good enclosed outdoor tables & chairs. Staff seemed a bit too laid back and disorganised but very pleasant and helpful. With all the standard rooms occupied they upgraded us to an enormous suite for our first night. Amazing. We were able to leave our... more

Cara Lodge is an OK place in which to hang your hat while in Guyana. It is neither luxurious nor is it elegant. It is, however, well maintained and clean. The A/C in my room worked with no problem and hot water came in just a few seconds after turning on. I found it really interesting that one of the... more

The best thing about this hotel is the building itself - straight out of a bygone age, and nicely preserved with its polished wooden flooring and demerara windows. The room we had was like something out of the wild west: huge with a high ceiling, and green-painted wooden panelled walls. Don't expect high-end luxury. There was, however, a TV and... more

We stayed at Cara Lodge for one night at the start of our trip to Guyana and one night at the end. The main building is a beautiful old colonial wooden building with a small, but pleasant courtyard at the rear with seating area and a small bar. The rooms were fine, if a little tired. We stayed in room... more

On my recent trip to Guyana, I stayed at the Cara Lodge. It is a gem is a sea of poverty. The staff is on top of every detail and helpful. The only thing they can't control is the barking dogs and the back up generator. Lights go out often. The dogs bark late and real early. My room was... more

Cara Lodge is an agreable-to-look-at small hotel in Georgetown. A large mango tree winds its way skyward in the courtyard of the largely wooden building. My room (118) was clean and comfortable but its only windows looked onto the gallery which lead to my room and all other rooms on the floor. In other words, there was no privacy except... more
