I actually paid for a night at another guesthouse, but left to move to May Shan. I woke up the next morning very happy with my decision. The location is so central, the rooms clean and comfortable, there is a constant generator and a lift, and the woman who runs May Shan is very helpful and friendly.
The walls are floor to ceiling tiles, but the room is still cozy and cleaned each day. I could come in from the heat at any time to have a shower and sit in cool airconditioning and they have satellite TV if you need to just relax and get over jetlag. The free breakfast of eggs, coffee and fruit is ok too. I felt safe at May Shan and they were happy to mind my bags for free while I travelled around the country.
Right outside the door is the Sule Paya. Around the corner are the Indian and Chinese quarters where you can try some local street food. The Bogyoke Aung San Market is an easy 15 minute walk away for those who need to change money and do some bargain shopping.
