The Hotel Kala has a fantastic location in the old town of Tiblisi.
A quiet hotel- perhaps 17 rooms- And I sense not always full. Their guests mostly seem to be western or Japanese. The hotel features in the Regent Holidays brochure though it hasn't yet made it into the main guidebooks.

The Kala is tucked away on a small road at the top of the Old Town & is surrounded on 3 sides by old apartments. You shouldn't be put off by the ruined building next door (earthquake damage & as of mid 2007 the 7 families who owned have not been able to agree sale terms!) and I would guess that in a couple of years the hotel will be slap bang in the middle of gentrified Tiblisi. You are about 3 blocks away from The Marriot on Freedom Square - a quaint walk past decrepit balconied buildings & a quiet square

The hotel would not be easy to find on foot by yourself- there is a sign saying 'hotel' but not 'Kala' though I dare say it did in the impressively impenetrable... more
