This was the second time of staying here awith groups of 10+ people and was again pleased with the overall service. Having read reports on here I would agree that in some respects this hotel is 'tired' - however, what do people expect from one of the oldest hotels in the city? I much prefer this style to the soul-less... more

I wasn't sure what to expect after reading the variety of reviews on this hotel, but found it better than expected. The main floor was quite nice -- obviously not new but it had a certain elegance. The breakfast buffet is served in a large room overlooking the Nile and offerings are exceptional. This room becomes a dinner buffet at... more

We enjoyed the Shepheard Hotel especially because our room was quiet and we were able to sleep (having had two restless nights elsewhere due to traffice noise). The hotel is far from new but has been refurbished. The reception and downstairs areas, including a cafe serving delicious cakes and quality tea and coffee, are pleasant and comfortable. Our room was... more

Shepheards Hotel, Cairo, Egypt Reviewer, Trip Advisor , Suffolk, England. 21 February 2008 Previous reports of this hotel were not brilliant but my travel agent had booked us in so we had no choice. The first impression was favourable, tall large marble floored atrium includes reception, large breakfast/dining room, cafe serving gorgeous cakes and proper tea and coffee. Breakfast is... more

Hotel was fine, but there were meal and mini-bar charges at check-out that were not mine. When I asked them to show me where I signed for meals they could not produce anything, yet still insisted on charging me. They also charged me for use of the mini-bar in my room when I never used it. In all, I was... more

We booked into this hotel for 3 nights and enjoyed the stay very much. The room was large, 2 double beds, with a lovely large ensuite bathroom. The view from our room wasn't good as our room was at the back, so would recommend booking a room with a view of the Nile. Food was very good with a choice... more

We booked for 3 nights, left after 2. October 2007. Ramadan had just finished. We have travelled more than 30 countries and have experienced many hotels. This hotel needs work. It is owned by Egyptians and is not well run these days. Reception are helpful, just, but not prepared to go the extra (inch!) to help. I tried. Positives: Price,... more

I stayed at the Shepheard, formerly called the Helnan Shepheard for five nights at the end of February 2007. The location is absolutely ideal and that is the only reason I booked it. At check-in, I asked for a quiet room away from the traffic noise. The room I had was very comfortable if a little dated. I slept well.... more

After 3 nights of misery at Maadi Hotel, we transferred over to Hotel Shepheard during our extension stay. The lobby was classy and the room was huge. We had a Nile View room and the view was spectacular. The toilet was spacious and even came with a washing bowl. There were 2 queen beds and a huge dressing corner. Breakfast... more

Our tour group booked into the Shepheard Hotel on May 2 and then again on May 7. Our rooms were more than adequate, actually very good. The food was excellant and the staff were very accommodating. On our May 7th stay we had a celebration dinner to wind down our trip and the kitchen prepared a wonderful layer cake for... more
