we received excellent service at this hotel, in a country where foreigners are seldom helped unless there is a baksheesh involved. the guys at the front desk helped us get train tickets (they wouldn't sell us tickets at the station because they want foreigners to buy tickets on the train--so the ticket salesman can jack up the price and pocket... more

When we reached Aswan we checked into the mid-range Philae hotel and immediately checked out as a result of the damp rooms, shabby furnishing and old and stained bathrooms.
