Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The most impressive hotel and staff I have encountered in over 40 years of travel! Every detail was seen to. Every meal was perfect. The staff was the most personable and pleasant I have encountered anywhere. The butler service (Kennedy was ours) was amazing. I never waited more than 5 minutes to have any request answered. The dining wait staff was superb (Newton was our favorite). The spa was excellent. The grounds immaculate. This is one of the few times that I feel I got everything I paid for. We will be back as soon as we save up our pennies.

I wish I could give this hotel the 5 stars it's rooms and food deserve but my check in experience was a negative 3. Despite my showing the front desk a confirmation email, an active reservation in the Hyatt app, and having Hyatt customer service live on the phone, the hotel's reservations manager Beth insisted my reservation had been cancelled. I was treated as an interloper. The rudeness took on new levels when my driver arrived (while the check in argument continued) and the hotel both refused to give him a cold drink "no he's a local" and refused to let me pay for one "so far you are not a guest." When I objected to how I was treated, Beth assured me that "guests are never treated this way." Right. Just interlopers with active confirmed reservations. Rude and pathetic.

We only spent about 12 hours at this hotel before we headed out for safari but we could have spent a whole week there. The rooms and insanely nice. The restaurant was fantastic and open 24 hours so when we got there at 11pm we were able to eat dinner and have a few drinks. We will return and hopefully for a longer stay in the future.

Wonderful rooms, outstanding facilities, food and, above all, service. The welcome and hospitality from all the staff at the hotel would be hard to match. Hemingways Nairobi is a very special place and I could not recommend it more highly.

We used this a bit of a base which enabled luggage to be left to accommodate internal flight weight limits. The hotel is in the Karen district of Nairobi and has reasonably quick access to and from both Jomo Kenyetta and Wilson Airports, 40 mins max normally. It follows that access by road to places like Mombasa, the Tsavo National Park, Amboseli, Masai Mara, and probably Nakuru and Naivasha should be initially straight forward to get out of Nairobi. Places in the North such as the Aberdare’s and Samburu will take a lot longer due to clear Nairobi due to traffic. Most of the suites are in 6 blocks running downhill on the right-hand side of the hotel. If you have mobility issues there are ground floor rooms and staff can provide lifts back up to the hotel in electric trollies. We stayed 4 nights, one night, then safari, one night, and another safari, and 2 nights, all in three different suites. However the suite layout was the same. Large bed with what you would expect in such a hotel room. Two sliding doors enable access to the balcony with furniture to sit or lay down on. Views vary a bit depending on which room but all overlook the garden and a couple of ponds. The bathroom is behind the main room with shower (one morning there was no hot water), bath, toilet and basins at either end. A walk in wardrobe with a safe. The wardrobe has an automatic light so at night if you don’t want to have the light come on, close the doors. However, a light to guide you to the toilet may be helpful to some. Meals are served in an indoor room on the left as you walk in or in two outside areas either side of the hotel. At lunchtimes meals can also be taken using outside seating in front of the water feature and fountains. Breakfast is part buffet and part ordered from the table. Other meals are ordered from the table. Evening meal booking is not always needed but if you want a table outside then may be best to book. There is a bar, upstairs, but its opening hours varied. Out of the 4 days we spent it was only open at lunch times on 2 days. The other 2 days it opened at 14.00 and 16.00. This may be due to occupancy levels in the hotel. It was open every evening with shades to protect from the sun which are lifted as the sun starts to set over the Ngong Hills. The hotel does have day visitors inc businesses meetings as well as people in for lunch. All the staff we met were friendly and accommodating. Not for everyone’s budget but a nice hotel to relax in.

Dear Wylie Norwich, Thank you for sending us this five star review. Our location is certainly one of the things we are very proud of as a hotel, being in Karen where it quiet and relaxing. Our bar timings are from 4.00pm on weekdays and 12noon on weekends and you can enjoy sundowner with great views of the gardens and the Ngong hills. We are delighted that all our staff were friendly and accommodating and we hope to welcome you again hopefully soon. Kind regards Evelyne Shuku Operations Manager

Hemingway’s provides a beautiful atmosphere for Sunday brunch on their terrace. So many different varieties of food including sushi and amazing desserts plus bottomless champagne and mimosas made our morning/afternoon brunch delightful. Our waiter, Newton, provided the most amazing service and his friendly personality was delightful. We never felt rushed and fully enjoyed our 2+ hour brunch!!! Thank you Newton and all of the wonderful staff at Hemingway’s!

The Hemingways is a classic, charming facility with really excellent public space both inside and out. The rooms are spacious and have a great deal of potential, but they need an upgrade across the board: upgraded mattresses, upgraded furniture, and upgraded electric. The charging retrofit for devices is embarrassing. The charging unit does not have room to accommodate an adapter! Other than that, experience is nice.
