We visited this hotel a few years ago now (July 2012 is the latest date I am allowed to quote) and found it to be reasonably priced and reasonably well located. It isn't a luxury hotel and the rooms are a bit tired but you get the feeling that this is the real China, unlike one of the main chain... More

For a 'central' beijing hotel the subway access is a 15 minute walk. The desk staff are not very patient for non-typical questions like security storage bigger items than can fit into the room safe. Whenever i had a question about a location it was very tedious process to get more information or even recommendations. At 1am was still being... More

We stayed here for a few nights in late December 2012. The hotel stinks of smoke and shrimp, although we never actually saw anyone smoking inside. Must be from years of smoking allowed. Not a bad hotel. My room didn't have a window though, so was kind of dark and smoky/shrimpy smelling. But not dirty. The best part was the... More

Stayed here three nights while in Beijing. Built in the 1950. It had a certain feel of the old times! Lots of Chinese including school groups. A Chinese buzz. Dining room, impracticle carpet, communal tables.Had to finish breakfast swiftly one morning as there was a wedding to be catered for. (Large photo of the bride and groom in wedding garb... More

I recently stayed in this hotel just this past week for work reasons. it's a huge difference from the one at Jianguomen although they are cousins. i won't recommend this hotel for business travelers or backpacker-types as every day at the breakfast hall, it is something between a melee and a rugby scrum. hordes of guests either from organized tour... I was staying in Beijng in a nearby hotel and was directed to this hotel which has a theatre showing the Beijing Opera. The foyer was a delight and the staff very helpful. The theatre was highly entertaining and very colourful. A great evening.

This was the first hotel of five that we stayed in on mainland China, and compared to the other hotels, we were satisfied with our stay. Our room was surprisingly large, we loved having free WiFi in the rooms and the breakfast buffet had quite a good spread. We were comfortable, but not wowed. A tip--we ran out of complimentary... The hotel was built in 1956 and was updated 6 years ago, the room we got had high ceilings and crown mouldings. I don’t understand what other reviewers called outdated, as our room was very comfortable and upscale though the bed was harder then we like. Free wi-fi and also had a wired connection in the room, flat screen TV... More

September 2012 - a very pleasant stay - provides all the conveniences one would expect from a three/four star hotel. Within easy distance of Tienanmen Square and Forbidden City.English speaking staff a big bonus.Very helpful people.

Stayed for 3 nights on our tour. Rooms were a good size, clean with all amenities but the beds were rock hard! Traffic in Beijing is a nightmare so taxis don't like short fares! Taxi to Silk market was 25 from hotel but had to haggle for 80 coming back.breakfast had a good selection but each morning they put everything... More
