The rainbow or "bei wei" hotel is a large tourist class type of accommodation in a residential area south of Tienamen Square. It's location is not really walking distance (half an hour walk) from the Forbidden City, but by taxi it is in easy reach of all major attractions. Despite the mastodon size, it offers rather spacy and clean rooms... more

My husband and I stayed here for the first 3 nights of our honeymoon, as part of an arranged private tour. As we had our own driver and guide the location didn't bother us, apart from the first night when we wanted to get onto the subway. It was a taxi journey away, but the taxis are very cheap in... more

I stayed here as part of a large group/tour for several nights in March 2008. I stayed in a twin room. I cannot comment on how accessible the hotel is by public transport because we had a coach which took us everywhere. The hotel seemed rather clean - the lobby was quite nice and grand as it was refurbished in... more

The rooms are very comfortable, especially the huge velvet window seats that are more like an extra bed in the room. The facilities in the room are good and reliable. The hot water and the shower all work well. Two small bottles of water are provided. The beds are comfortable. I watched Obama's election on BBC TV at midday, Beijing... more

The hotel was clean, and the beds more comfortable than another Beijing hotel we stayed in recently. There was a restaurant across the street, frequented by mostly local Chinese. The food was different from American Chinese. However, it was well prepared, tastey, and cheap. The staff there was friendly and efficient. The hotel breakfast was good, and we ate once... more

We stayed in 3 hotels during our China tour, and this was probably the best. Not great compared to our American expectations, but it was clean and the food was good. There were more Western options at the breakfast buffet than at our other two hotels. Beds are hard in China--get used to it! I asked for extra blankets to... more

I was booked into this hotel in September 07 for three nights as part of a tour of China with On The Go. Positives ·Good location – within walking distance of Tiannamen Square, the Forbidden City, and Heavenly Gate Temple ·Modern, clean facilities / rooms. ·Good breakfast buffet ·Good restaurant (don’t be put off by the appearance of one of... more

Stayed here for a few nights at the end of October and it was a pleasant surprise to find it had been refurbished to a good standard. I had a twin room, quite small, but sufficient. In the bathroom you have a small bath with shower over, and a selection of free toiletries like shampoo, cotton buds, and also slippers.... more
